NEW LONDON — A brisk fall morning couldn’t deter apple lovers from all around to come attend one last picking session at The Land just south of New London on Saturday.
Apples were ripe and waiting to be picked from the orchard just south of New London off Old Mill Road.
Previous owners of the property mainly focused on producing wine. However, when Mateo Mackbee and Erin Lucas invested in the business now called The Land, along with Kyle and Marin Novak, in August of 2021, one of the things they wanted to start working toward was improving the orchard, which has been around for quite some time.
With some trees experiencing a dormant year, the orchard mainly had Haralson for folks to pick. Haralsons are known for being optimal apples for creating jams, pies and apple crisps.
The orchard also has Golden Crisps, Honey Crisps and Zestars. According to Kyle Novak, they hope to add more species in the coming years.
