No need to open the Plex web interface!
Available today for desktop and mobile clients, the Plexamp v4.5.0 update introduces a large number of highly-requested features. For example, you can now build Collections from the Plexamp app, or share albums with friends via a simple URL.
Collections are often utilized by Plex users who want to organize their movies and TV shows. But music fans tend to neglect this feature—it’s a shame, really. I have a large music library with some weird odds and ends, including chopped and screwed remixes, old Power 99 broadcasts, and bootlegged concerts.
Using Collections, I can sort this stuff into distinct music libraries. And now, I don’t need to open the Plex web interface to get the job done. Very cool.
Another interesting v4.5.0 addition is the ability to share artists, albums, or tracks via a URL. These URLs link to a web interface, which shows every platform where an album or track is available to stream. And if you’ve shared your library with a friend, they can use this interface to stream content from your Plex server.
This new “share” system isn’t totally fleshed out. For example, the listing for Beyonce’s RENAISSANCE contains a bunch of extra songs titled “Track 1,” “Track 2,” and so on. And the page for Marvin Gaye’s I Want You lacks any buttons for Spotify, Apple Music, or other services.
In addition to these awesome new features, Plexamp v4.5.0 adds AutoEQ presets for over 3000 models of headphones (these EQ settings give you a “flat” sound). You can also filter songs by duration and see longer song titles in the app marquee. And oddly enough, there’s a secret new feature called GuestDJ (probably a “listening party” thing) that will go live at a later date.
You can install the Plexamp v4.5.0 update now at the Plexamp website, Google Play store, or iOS App Store. Note that the desktop app now uses Electron v19.1.1, which introduces several bug fixes.
