Growing up, I played a whole lot of Pokemon. I mean, most people who were born around the same time as me did. And even if you didn’t play the games, you watched the show or played around with the cards. It’s hard to say that Pokemon was anything short of a phenomenon (still is, but a bit less so).
But let’s head back to the cards. As much as people like to collect and sell the cards, the original purpose was to battle with them and trust me, that was a lot of fun. Well, that experience is coming back in a modern form that fits on your Android smartphone, and it’ll launch for real on October 30th.
The Pokemon TCG Pocket Game Is Now Open For Pre-Registration On Google Play; Set For An October 30th Launch
Way back in February, we reported on the very first news of the Pokemon Trading Card Game finding its way to Android. As exciting as it was to talk about the game, there was very little in terms of solid dates to go by. We could look, but not touch. However, as the year comes to a close, we now have something a lot more substantial related to the game: pre-registration and an actual launch date.
First off, let’s talk about pre-registration. You’ll be able to get yourself pre-registered on the Google Play Store now, which will simply take a single click. Once you’ve done that, as soon as the game is launched and available for download on your device, you’ll get a notification to alert you so you can be one of the first people collecting cards in this new virtual Pokemon world.
But whether you’re pre-registering or not, it’s also great to know that the game is set for a launch on October 30th, which is about a month and a week away at this point. I’m certain that The Pokemon Company will aim to drum up a lot more hype before that date comes, and we should also learn a few more details regarding the new mobile game.
What Is Pokemon TCG Pocket Going To Be All About?
Everyone heard about Pokemon Go when it first launched. I’m not sure if there’s ever been a mobile game that blew up as fast as that one did, but it was certainly a cultural event in itself. I’m not sure whether the developers have similarly lofty goals for the TCG Pocket game, but with the way the game seems to be planned, that might be the case.
You can think of the essence of the game as being card collecting and trading. You’ll be able to open two free booster packs every day, so you’re always going to be able to add new cards to your collection. However, if you’re willing to (and rather unsurprisingly), you’ll also be able to spend your hard-earned real money to buy cards as well.
There will be trading, casual card battles, and “immersive cards” which will have more detailed and almost 3D illustrations attached to them, all from your Android smartphone.
