Apple TV Plus has released a short teaser for the documentary series Prehistoric Planet, which features the narration of David Attenborough.
Apple TV Plus has released a short teaser trailer for the upcoming documentary series Prehistoric Planet. The five-part series will explore the world of dinosaurs using state-of-the-art visual effects technology and the soothing narration of Sir David Attenborough.
The new Apple TV Plus teaser for Prehistoric Planet begins with a familiar image for fans of nature documentaries: baby turtles crawling toward the ocean. Audiences will likely expect a predator in the form of a seagull or a crab, but instead, we’re introduced to another feathery creature, a baby Tyrannosaurus Rex. Far from the depiction in Hollywood films like Jurassic Park, this little guy is covered head to toe in feathers, an attribute that most paleontologists now believe was prominent with dinosaurs.
Another familiar element to this teaser is the recognizable narration of Sir Attenborough, who is known for narrating BBC-produced nature documentaries such as Planet Earth and The Blue Planet. Now, at the extraordinary age of 95, Attenborough returns for this five-night event. In the Prehistoric Planet teaser, Attenborough narrates as he would any nature documentary, despite the digitally created subjects. As the baby T-Rex fails to snag a baby turtle, Attenborough tells us, “He’s got the killer instinct, but his problem is inexperience.” The teaser concludes with the baby T-Rex venturing down the beach to be consoled by a gigantic daddy T-Rex as the music swells.
According to a press release from Apple, Prehistoric Planet “combines award-winning wildlife filmmaking, the latest paleontology learnings and state-of-the-art technology to unveil the spectacular habitats and inhabitants of ancient Earth for a one-of-a-kind immersive experience.” The series is executive produced by The Mandalorian‘s Jon Favreau, as well as the producers of the BBC series Planet Earth. Accompanying Attenborough’s narration is a breathtaking score from renowned composer Hans Zimmer, who recently won an Oscar for his work on last year’s science-fiction epic, Dune. MPC, the visual effects company behind the live-action Disney adaptations of The Lion King and The Jungle Book, also provided the series with its photorealistic visual effects.
Despite being late to the game with original streaming content, Apple TV Plus has seen a huge boom in original movies and series in the last few years. The company just won its first Oscar for coming-of-age drama CODA, which won the Academy Award for Best Picture and Best Supporting Actor for actor Troy Kotsur. The streaming service is also known for its popular TV series, including the multiple Emmy Award-winning comedy Ted Lasso and the science fiction drama For All Mankind.
Prehistoric Planet premieres exclusively on Apple TV Plus on May 23rd, 2022.
