PSA: Some older Samsung Smart TV’s will stop supporting Netflix from December 1

Sitting down to binge-watch the latest season of Insatiable with a hot drink, some chocolate, your loved one, and the cat is one way to have an enjoyable day off. Sadly, for folks that own a selected Samsung Smart TV from 2010 or 2011, this may not be an option from December 1st as the Netflix app will cease to be supported.

Samsung recently said in a statement that it was notified by Netflix that “as of 1 December, the Netflix app will no longer be supported on selected 2010 and 2011 Smart TV models sold in Canada and the US.” Netflix’s support page has the following message:

“Due to technical limitations, Netflix will no longer be available on this device after December 1st, 2019. Please visit for a list of available devices.”

If your Samsung Smart TV is one of the models set to lose support for the Netflix app from December 1, you have a couple of options open to you. The most expensive route would be to head out and buy a new television, perhaps snagging a bargain during the Black Friday sales. The cheaper alternative is to buy an add-on device such as a Chromecast, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, gaming console, or set-top box that has the Netflix app installed. Again, you’ll be able to pick up a bargain during Black Friday seeing as you have until the end of November until support is ceased. There is a third option which would be to hit the nuclear button and cancel your subscription.

If your television is one of those affected, which option are you leaning towards?
