Qualcomm usually announces its new flagship Snapdragon processor during a press jaunt held in Hawaii at the tail-end of the year, but according to a reliable leak, it seems that we’ll learn about the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 a month earlier. The source in question is Qualcomm itself, having inadvertently revealed the dates for its fifth Snapdragon Tech Summit on its own website.
First discovered by GSMArena, the web listing on Qualcomm’s Company Events page (now deleted) showed that the Snapdragon Tech Summit would be held between November 14-17, starting the day after MediaTek’s own Tech Summit where we expect to see the latest Dimensity chips unveiled. The post is likely a mistake by Qualcomm as opposed to a scheduled announcement seeing as the chipmaker usually plays its cards a little closer to the chest.
If accurate, the post shows that development of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 (SM8550) is going well. It’s rumored that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will sport a 1+2+2+3 configuration consisting of the newly announced Cortex-X3 core, two Cortex-A720 cores, two Cortex-A710 cores, and a trio of Cortex-A510 cores.
What does it mean?
Nothing much in all honestly, although the media invited to the Snapdragon Tech Summit will be alerted that it’s coming up sooner than expected. Oh, and we can expect the annual rumors that Samsung will announce its next Galaxy S flagship even earlier than usual.
