Realme 12 Pro And Realme 12 Pro+ Launch In India
realme phones are available in several markets now, majorly in Asia and Europe, but their biggest market is almost certainly India. So, it is no surprise they got the privilege of being the first to welcome the brand-new realme 12 Pro and 12 Pro+ to the world.
Compared to their predecessors, the design language doesn’t change excessively, but they bring some serious upgrades that make them much harder to resist.
The Realme 12 Pro Looks Like A Luxury Product
The first thing that strikes me about realme 12 Pro is how it looks. The vegan leather back looks a lot more premium than plain plastic, and is split down the middle by a “3D jubilee bracelet”. Plus, with the gold bezel around the camera cutout, this phone punches above its weight class, even if in looks alone. It comes in Submariner Blue and Navigator Beige, the latter of which makes the device look like a luxury product.
You get a 6.7-inch 120Hz AMOLED screen with FHD+ resolution, unchanged from the previous generation. This time around, you get realme UI 5.0 which is based on Android 14, powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 1. This is an upgrade over the Mediatek processor in the 11 Pro. The available configurations are 8GB/128GB and 8GB/256GB.
The camera cutout on the 12 Pro is very different from the 11 Pro, and that’s because there are major upgrades in that department. The main shooter drops from 100MP to 50MP, but you also get a 32MP 2x telephoto camera and an 8MP ultrawide. That trade-off is worth it compared to the 2MP depth sensor that was on the 11 Pro. The selfie camera stays mostly the same, at 16MP.
You still get a 5,000 mAh cell with 67W SuperVOOC wired charging, and they say this should get you to 50% in just under 20 minutes. It starts at INR 25,999 ($310).
Realme 12 Pro+ The Camera Sets It Apart
Design-wise, you’ll have a hard time telling the 12 Pro and the 12 Pro+ apart. They have the same vegan leather backing, the same gold strip running down the middle, and the same fluted bezel around the cameras. You also get the same Submariner Blue and Navigator Beige colorways, though the realme 12 Pro+ has an exclusive Explorer Red option.
You’ll find the exact same 6.7-inch FHD+ AMOLED display to show you all the capabilities of realme UI 5.0. However, you get the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 here, for a bit more power over the Mediatek in the 11 Pro+ and the lower-end Snapdragon in the 12 Pro. This phone comes in 8GB/128GB and 8GB/256GB options like the realme 12 Pro, but also has 12GB/256GB if you want more.
The cameras are where the realme 12 Pro+ sets itself apart from the 11 Pro+ and the 12 Pro. You get a 50MP main camera with a bigger sensor than the 12 Pro and multi-directional PDAF. This device also has a 64MP periscope 3x telephoto lens for more zoom performance, and then the same 8MP ultrawide as the 12 Pro and 11 Pro+. The selfie camera is 32MP.
The 5,000 mAh battery is the same as its predecessor and the 12 Pro launching alongside it. However, its 67W SuperVOOC wired charging, while impressive, is a step down from the 100W wired charging on the 11 Pro+ (and far from the 240W charging of the realme GT Neo 5). This phone will start at INR 29,999 ($360) and go as high as INR 33,999 ($410) for the top configuration.
Giving Competitors A Solid Run For Their Money
The realme 12 Pro and 12 Pro+ keep quite a few things the same way their predecessors laid them out, but if it isn’t broken, why fix it? For phones in the $300 to $400 range, you get very good specifications all over the spec sheet (and with a 67W charger included in the box no less).
Beyond the premium luxury watch-inspired look, it’s evident that diversifying the camera setup was a main objective for realme, and in my opinion, they achieved it. They may offer what is arguably the best imaging experience at this price point, coming a long way from when they were only a thorn in Redmi’s foot. Are you going to get one of these realme devices?
