I like Realme because I think they’re one of the best brands to pay attention if you want to get performance and specs that somehow seem to betray the price that the phone comes at. I also like them because they’re one of the more innovative brands in the modern smartphone landscape.
Speaking of innovation, Realme has always been at the forefront of fast charging and currently holds the record with the fastest-charging production phone in the world. The company is set to break its own record soon, as it plans to show off 300W charging.
Realme Will Show Off Its 300W Fast Charging On August 14th At The Realme Fan Festival
This isn’t speculation. It’s very clear that Realme is planning to show off some brand-new fast charging technology and it looks like the number that the company is aiming for is that 300W mark. Considering the fact that they’ve already done 240W with the Realme GT Neo 5, 300 is the next significant number for them to hit.
The unveiling is going to happen on August 14th at a dedicated event in the company’s home country of China. That’s going to be perfectly in time for the company’s 828 Realme Fan Festival where there’ll definitely be even more announcements to make Realme fans happy.
However, amidst all of this, you need to keep in mind that Realme is showing off the technology itself, and not a smartphone that comes with 300W fast charging. We may need to wait a little bit before that happens, but it’d be nice to see the company bring this ultra-fast charging to its Realme GT 7 for next year.
This Is Not The First Time A Company Is Showing Off 300W Charging
When it comes to showing off 300W charging technology, Realme is actually second in line, as Redmi showed off that charging system in February 2023. The only thing is that up to date, they are yet to incorporate it in a phone.
That’s where Realme is likely to be different, as they’ve shown they aren’t scared of going as fast as possible in the charging department.
Unless Batteries Are Going To Get Much Bigger, 300W Fast Charging Should Be As High As We Go
Now then, here’s where I tell you what I think about this whole thing. The Realme GT Neo 5 came with 240W fast charging and a 4,600 mAh battery and was able to charge to 100% in just 10 minutes. That’s incredibly fast. We all know that the average smartphone, even with fast charging, tends to be closer to the 1-hour mark.
With 300W fast charging, you should be able to charge 5,000 mAh batteries in less than 10 minutes. Redmi’s 300W charging was able to fill a 4,100 mAh battery in under 5 minutes, though that’s certainly a small battery by 2024 standards. Either way, we should be looking at the average battery charging fully in about 7 minutes.
If you’re running late and your phone is completely dead, you could end up with 100% in the time it’d take for you to get dressed. Cool. However, I think if manufacturers can consistently hit the sub-10-minute mark, there’s no need to go higher than 300W. What would be the point of a phone that charges in 3 minutes? I know we all live busy lives, but there’s no one who doesn’t find a 10-minute full charge to be convenient enough.
