Apple introduced MagSafe charging on their iPhone lineup last year, bringing the temporarily extinct magnetic charging to their mobile phones. It’s got some pretty neat uses, like magnetic card wallets and portable battery packs that stick to their back of your phone.
But we haven’t really seen other manufacturers try and tackle that form factor for accessories. Looks like Realme’s going to try to be the first with their MagDart charging.
Realme MagDart charging
The concept of MagDart charging is somewhat similar to Apple’s MagSafe. Instead of plugging into the phone or just being a wireless charging pad, it specifically sticks to the phone with magnets to juice it up.
Realme has already snagged some trademarks for MagDart, and a video from XDA shows it in action. Spoiler: it’s pretty fast.
The video shows the upcoming Realme Flash charging from 18% to 26% in about 3 minutes. Some calculations from XDA suggest that you might be able to pull a full charge to 100% from MagDart charging in under an hour, which blows MagSafe out of the water.
It’s still up in the air what phones will support this, and whether or not Realme will pursue other accessories in the MagDart format like Apple has.
Realme is expected to reveal more details about this very soon.
