Apple Original Films has landed a new two-part documentary for Apple TV+ that will explore the life and career of legendary writer, producer, director, actor and comedian Steve Martin.

The as-yet-untitled project will be directed and produced by Academy Award winner Morgan Neville (Won’t You Be My Neighbor?), and coproduced by A24 and Neville’s Tremolo Productions (20 Feet from Stardom). A24 will executive produce alongside Tremolo’s Caitrin Rogers.

Breaking through as a stand-up comedian and first-gen Saturday Night Live star in the 1970s, Martin (pictured) went on to become one of the most popular comedic actors of his generation, starring in beloved films like The Jerk, Three Amigos!, Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Parenthood, Father of the Bride and Bowfinger. He also forged successful careers in several other fields, including performing on the banjo, writing successful novels and plays, and amassing a fine art collection that has served as the basis for several international gallery exhibitions.

In recent years, Martin has also enjoyed a late-career resurgence with the popular Hulu crime comedy series Only Murders in the Building.

The two-part documentary will join Apple’s slate of upcoming non-fiction titles, including the Sidney Poitier feature doc Sidney, which will have its world premiere at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival, and the recently announced project on actor and advocate Michael J. Fox.
