Redmi Note 14 Pro Review: Design

The Redmi Note 14 Pro closely resembles its sibling, the Pro+ variant, in both appearance and how it feels in the hand. And, unlike the Note 13 series, this time around, the Pro and the Pro+ models look nearly identical, with only a few small differences to tell them apart.

Users will have three colour options to choose from — Titan Black, with its glittery finish, feels sleek, the Phantom Purple stuns with its faux leather texture and the Ivy Green, which stands out for its unique dual-tone design. The vegan leather back on the Phantom Purple, further adds gives the Note 14 Pro a premium feel. Regardless of the colour you choose, the Note 14 Pro’s design is sure to impress.

The Redmi Note 14 Pro has a slim and lightweight build, making it comfortable to hold and use. And despite its budget price, the device feels sturdy and well-built. In fact, its durability is one of its most striking features. The Note 14 Pro has an impressive IP68 and IP69 rating, meaning it’s built to withstand splashes here and there, dust and even a proper dunk into the water.

On the front, the screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, one of the toughest glass panels in the market, which makes the device resistant to not scratches but also drops from significant heights. And to drive that point home, the phone also has TUV certification, ensuring it can survive a fall from up to 1.5 metres onto a flat surface. This added durability makes it feel like a device you can rely on, even if you’re prone to the occasional accident.

The front display also houses the optical in-display fingerprint sensor which is quick and snappy.

Coming to the back, we get a massive camera island in a large squircle design with four separate sections — three for the camera sensors and one for the flash. We also get a subtle metallic ring around the squircle island which enhances the phone’s overall aesthetic. Redmi’s branding at the bottom adds a simple, clean touch.

At just 8.4mmn thick and weighing in at 190 grams, the Note 14 Pro feels surprisingly light, even though it houses a massive 5,500mAh battery. The curved front and back panels also add to its ergonomic design, ensuring it’s comfortable to hold for extended periods.

Coming to the ports, here’s a speaker grille, a USB Type-C port, and a dual nano SIM tray. As for buttons, we find the volume rockers and power button on the right side, which feel sturdy and well-constructed, with no wobbling. There’s no 3.5mm headphone jack, but at the top, you’ll find multiple microphones and an IR blaster.

As for what you get in the box, Redmi includes a 45W fast charger, a USB Type-A to Type-C cable, a SIM ejector tool, and a slim TPU case for basic protection.

Redmi Note 14 Pro Review: Display

The Redmi Note 14 Pro’s display is truly a treat for the eyes. Measuring in at 6.67-inches, the 3D Curved AMOLED display, boasts a resolution of 2712 x 1220, and is a 1.5K display. While one may think that isn’t the full 2K panel we see in many phones at this price point, what sets the Redmi Note 14 Pro is the panel’s performance. What really sets the display apart is the fact that it is a 12-bit display, which is not only a rarity in premium smartphones, but perhaps unheard of in this segment.

With peak spot brightness hitting a dazzling 3000 nits and a HBM mode that measures at 1200 nits, and a typical brightness of 500 nits, this panel, shines bright, quite literally.

Whether you’re indoors or out under the sun, the screen handles it all with ease, delivering excellent visibility even in direct sunlight. Plus, the Dolby Vision and Adaptive HDR10+ support take the colour and contrast game up several notches, which ensures users get the a pretty vibrant and detailed visuals for a properly immersive viewing experience.

Seriously, watching a properly HDR-graded piece of content on YouTube or supported Netflix show is sublime.

What’s more is that the display isn’t just bright and colourful — it’s pretty smart too. It can reproduce over 68 billion colours, far beyond what most human eyes can even register, and it supports 100% of the DCI-P3 colour range for accurate and vivid colour representation.

The curved design also comes with a dynamic refresh rate, adjusting between 1Hz and 120Hz based on what’s on screen. This thoughtful optimisation not only keeps things smooth for scrolling and gaming but also conserves battery life when high refresh rates aren’t needed. For gamers, the phone ups its touch sampling rate from 240Hz to 460Hz during intense gaming sessions, ensuring lightning-fast responses.

The display doesn’t stop at good looks — it’s functional and comes loaded with a ton of safety certifications, which makes the panel eye-friendly. We get several TÜV Rheinland certifications which ensure reduced blue light, flicker-free visuals. It also makes adjustments to the display that make late-night scrolling less taxing on your eyes. The panel clearly has been designed with comfort in mind, adapting the colour temperature to warmer tones for a more relaxed viewing experience.

For streaming enthusiasts, the Redmi Note 14 Pro is Widevine L1 certified, meaning you can enjoy Netflix and other OTT platforms in full HD without compromises. The screen also delivers sharp details, solid contrast ratios, and excellent viewing angles, making it a versatile performer across different use cases.

In testing, the display proved to be a cut above its competition, maintaining clarity and colour accuracy even in challenging lighting conditions. Redmi has a reputation for delivering great displays in the mid-range and budget segments, and the Note 14 Pro continues that legacy with style. For its price, this display feels like an absolute win.

Redmi Note 14 Pro Review: Camera

The Redmi Note 14 Pro’s camera setup offers a mix of strengths and weaknesses. At the core is a 50MP primary camera featuring a Sony LYT-600 sensor with an f/1.5 lens, accompanied by an 8MP ultra-wide sensor and a 2MP macro lens. While the main camera impresses, the supporting sensors don’t quite match up.

The 50MP primary camera is clearly the standout, delivering sharp and vibrant images with natural colours. It performs exceptionally well in well-lit conditions, capturing fine details that remain visible even when zoomed in. The colours out of the 50MP main camera can be a touch HDR-y or a bit too strong on that saturation front.

The ultrawide lens however, pulls things up nicely as far as colours are concerned, but they are no where even remotely close to the detail and resolution of the main sensor, which is a bit of a disappointment.

In low-light situations, the primary camera continues to shine, producing impressive shots in its default mode. The dedicated Night mode brightens the scene significantly but introduces some noise. While the shutter in Night mode is fast, it can still lead to blurry shots if your hands aren’t steady, as there’s only so much optical image stabilisation (OIS) can do.

The ultrawide and macro sensors, however, leave a lot to be desired. The ultra-wide lens struggles in low light, capturing less detail and clarity compared to the primary sensor. The macro lens, with its low resolution, fails to produce meaningful results, making it feel like an afterthought in the camera array.

On the front, the 20MP selfie camera delivers decent performance. It captures sharp selfies with a pleasing background blur in portrait mode. While there’s no noticeable shutter lag, the stabilisation could use some improvement, especially for videos or action shots.

Here are some camera samples out of the Redmi Note 14 Pro:

In terms of video, the main camera can record at up to 4K at 30fps, offering good colour reproduction and dynamic range. However, the videos lean heavily on sharpening, and the ultra-wide lens introduces some grain, particularly in areas with uniform textures. Also, we don’t get any meaningful stabilisation in 4K video. The front camera, recording at up to 1080p at 60fps, delivers acceptable results, though it doesn’t stand out in any significant way.

Overall, the Redmi Note 14 Pro’s camera setup is carried by its excellent 50MP primary sensor, which handles most situations with ease. However, the underwhelming performance of the ultra-wide and macro lenses makes the system feel unbalanced. For casual photographers, the main camera alone makes the device worth considering, but those looking for a more versatile setup may find the limitations hard to ignore.

Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G Review: Performance, Software Experience, UI & AI

The Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G delivers a pretty solid performance package with the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Ultra SoC at its core. The 4nm-chipset, which has been tried and tested across a number of devices, has been, paired with up to 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM (expandable via Redmi’s virtual RAM feature), ensures smooth operation for most everyday tasks.

Image Credit: Firstpost | Mehul Reuben Das

Storage options include 128GB and 256GB of UFS 2.2, which are adequate for daily use but may falter under heavy loads, such as rapidly capturing a large number of photos.

While the phone’s real-world performance is pretty solid and bankable for your day-to-day needs, its benchmark scores are might disappoint those who like to cursh score boards.

Having said that, benchmarks don’t always reflect real-life usability, and the Redmi Note 14 Pro holds its ground in practical scenarios. RAM management is another strong point, ensuring the phone remains responsive even with multiple apps running and frequent switching.

When it comes to gaming, the Note 14 Pro performs impressively for what it costs. Popular titles like BGMI, Call of Duty Mobile Warzone, run smoothly at high or ultra-high settings, maintaining consistent frame rates between 45-55fps without significant heating issues. Do keep in mind that this is not a gaming device.

The Note 14 Pro comes preloaded with Android 14 and Xiaomi’s new HyperOS 1.0. This brings a tonne of new features, and also means that the Note 14 Pro will play well with Xiaomi’s ecosystem. However, users can expect an update to HyperOS 2.0 pretty soon.

Redmi is also introducing a “4 Years Fluency” programme for the Redmi Note 14 Pro, which basically means that Redmi is promising lag-free performance for at least four years.

AI plays a big role in the Note 14 Pro’s appeal. It comes packed with tonnes of nifty AI features and tools like AI Erase Pro for removing unwanted objects, AI Image Expansion for widening scenes naturally, and AI Smart Clip for turning photos into dynamic video clips are just a few of the highlights. Other features include AI Cutout for isolating subjects and AI Sky, which transforms sky colours for dramatic effects. Xiaomi promises over 18 AI-driven features, with regular updates to add more capabilities over time.

The AI integration doesn’t stop at photos. It also boosts low-light camera performance, suggests contextual actions based on what’s on screen, and ensures the device continues to adapt to user needs. With three Android OS updates, three years of software support, and a fourth year of security updates, Redmi ensures the Note 14 Pro will remain relevant for years to come.

Heat management is another area where the Note 14 Pro does pretty well. Thanks to its advanced Vapor Cooling System, which features a larger vapour chamber, the phone stays cool even during extended gaming sessions or when running demanding apps. While the device may warm up slightly under heavy usage, it never gets uncomfortable, ensuring a consistent performance throughout.

The Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G strikes a balance between capable hardware, robust software, and innovative AI features, making it a strong contender in its price segment. Whether you’re gaming, multitasking, or exploring its AI-powered tools, the phone delivers a polished and reliable experience, further solidified by its promise of long-term software support.

Redmi Note 14 Pro Review: Battery Life

The Redmi Note 14 Pro does fantastically well when it comes to battery life. With an EV-grade 5,500mAh  solid state silicon carbide battery it’s been designed to keep up you throughout the day. You get a a 45W TurboCharge fast charger right in the box, which, although adequate, could have been a 120W or at the last a 90W charger at the very least.

You don’t get support for wireless charging, but let’s be real, that’s pretty normal for a phone in this price range.

What really makes the Note 14 Pro shine is how long that battery lasts. Thanks to the power-efficient Dimensity 7300 Ultra chipset, this phone just keeps going. After a day of heavy-duty use — snapping tons of photos and videos, binging on OTT shows, and even sneaking in an hour or so of gaming — the battery still had around 45% left. That’s impressive for 5-6 hours of serious use.

You should be able to stretch the battery life to two full days easily, even if you don’t restrain yourself too much without worrying about plugging it in. You can easily eke out a full two days of fairly unrestrained usage from the Redmi Note 14 Pro before reaching for the charger.

And when it’s finally time to charge, the 45W TurboCharge gets you back up and running quickly. During our tests, we were seeing it easily go from 0-100 per cent in under an hour. The Redmi Note 14 Pro has just nailed it on battery life.

Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G Review: Verdict

Priced at Rs 27,000 for the top-end variant, the Redmi Note 14 Pro commands a slight premium for a mid-range phone. But the extra cost feels justified when you look at what it offers — especially the standout display and long-lasting battery life.

The display, though not a 2K panel, is impressively sharp and more than sufficient for most users. Its colour reproduction and contrast are exceptional, rivalling those of premium devices that cost nearly twice as much. If visuals are a priority for you, this phone delivers in spades.

Performance-wise, the Note 14 Pro is solid, provided your expectations are realistic. It handles everyday tasks with ease and manages casual gaming well enough. However, if you push it too hard — whether it’s multitasking or demanding games — you might notice the occasional stutter.

The camera setup is where things get a little shaky. The 50MP main sensor is undoubtedly capable but could use some fine-tuning, which future software updates might address. Unfortunately, the supporting cameras don’t do much to enhance the experience. The 8MP ultra-wide and macro lenses feel like missed opportunities that could have been replaced with better options to round out the package.

Despite its minor shortcomings, the Redmi Note 14 Pro is a well-rounded device. It’s a jack-of-all-trades that excels in most areas without major compromises. For those on the hunt for a capable, budget-friendly phone, the Note 14 Pro is worth considering — especially if you can snag it at the right price. It might not be perfect, but it’s a solid performer that checks most boxes for its target audience.
