Resident Evil 4 Has Sold 10 Million Copies, Bringing the Series’ Total to 167 Million
Announced in a press release, Resident Evil 4 remake has sold 10 million copies as of December 31, 2024, a little under two years after its launch. Capcom said that the remake is the fastest game in the series to reach this milestone, which a few other games in the franchise have reached. This brings the total series sales to over 167 million copies, making it Capcom’s best-selling series by a wide margin.
According to Capcom, Resident Evil is the best at 167 million, with Monster Hunter second at 108 million copies, and Street Fighter at 56 million. Those numbers are as of the end of 2024, so it does not include the sales of
Monster Hunter Wilds
, which would bring the total sales numbers up.
In the same release, Capcom also provided updated sales numbers for other recent entries in the series, including several games that have cleared 10 million copies.
Resident Evil series sales
- Resident Evil 4 (2023) – over 10 million
- Resident Evil 7: Biohazard – over 15 million
- Resident Evil 2 (2019) – over 15 million
- Resident Evil Village – over 11 million
- Resident Evil 3 (2020) – over 10 million
Capcom has not updated its list of Platinum titles–the company’s best-selling games–with these new numbers, but based on the current list, it looks like Resident Evil 4 remake sits at number 7, just above the Resident Evil 3 remake. In terms of sales, that puts it only behind the listed Resident Evil games above, Monster Hunter World, Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, and Monster Hunter Rise.
Monster Hunter Wilds also isn’t on the list just yet, but it reached 10 million copies sold just a month after launch, so it will likely sit much higher on the overall list once Capcom updates it.
Capcom’s 10 best-selling games as of the end of 2024
- Monster Hunter World – 21.3 million
- Monster Hunter Rise – 16.7 million
- Resident Evil 2 (2019) – 15 million
- Monster Hunter World Iceborne – 14.9 million
- Resident Evil 7: Biohazard – 14.4 million
- Resident Evil Village – 10.9 million
- Resident Evil 3 – 9.6 million
- Resident Evil 5 – 9.5 million
- Resident Evil 6 – 9.5 million
- Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak – 9.4 million
Capcom is looking to continue its renaissance in 2025 and beyond. With Monster Hunter Wilds already out, Onimusha: Way of the Sword. and a sequel to Okami announced to be coming in 2026 and beyond. Capcom also appears to be teasing Resident Evil 9 in a video on X, which ends with a shot of a sign that, when turned sideways, makes the roman numeral IX.
Considering that Capcom used roman numerals as the entry numbers for both Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and Resident Evil Village, it seems unlikely that it would be a coincidence.
