Restyled 2025 Ford Maverick Hybrid gains tech & capability

The 2025 Ford Maverick began reaching U.S. dealers late last year, following the opening of order books on August 1. While we’ve already checked out the pre-facelift model truck, we got to spend some time with the refreshed Hybrid model recently, and here’s what we think.

Maverick Hybrid AWD

The big news is that Ford has responded to customer demand by introducing an all-wheel-drive (AWD) hybrid model, available on XL, XLT, and Lariat trims. The new AWD variant is designed for all-road and rough-weather capability, while delivering an EPA-estimated 37 mpg (combined). The front-wheel-drive (FWD) hybrid continues, achieving a slightly higher 38 mpg (combined).

The standard engine remains a 2.5-liter hybrid producing 191 horsepower and 155 lb-ft of torque. The hybrid system continues using an e-CVT. A 94-kW permanent magnet electric motor supplements the engine, offering additional torque. The 1.1 kWh battery is liquid-cooled, situated beneath the cabin.

Towing & Hauling

With the optional 4K Tow Package, the Maverick Hybrid AWD doubles towing capacity to 4,000 pounds. Maximum payload reaches up to 1,500 pounds, further enhanced by Ford’s FLEXBED system. This flexible cargo area includes molded pockets to organize payload, accommodating up to 18 sheets of half-inch plywood, as per Ford. The multi-position tailgate adjusts to fit cargo such as furniture or bikes securely.

Design

The Maverick receives refreshed styling, featuring redesigned LED headlamps, front bumpers, and trim-specific grilles. When reviewing the truck last year, we felt that the bumper could be slightly more assertive, and it turns out that Ford’s designers felt the same way!

A Black Package adds distinctive elements such as black roof, badges, and gloss black 19-inch wheels. Inside, trim variations include the Aspen Gray/Navy Pier with Grabber Blue accents for the XLT, and Smoke Truffle with bronze accents for the Lariat, offering ample differentiation between the work- and lifestyle-oriented variants.

Standard wheels range from 17-inch steel to 19-inch aluminum on higher trims, while suspension systems vary by drivetrain choice. The AWD model gains a more sophisticated independent multi-link trailing arm suspension setup, improving ride and handling.

Interior & Features

Inside, the Maverick receives a significant upgrade with the new SYNC 4 infotainment system on a larger 13.2-inch touchscreen, replacing the previous 8-inch version, which we missed in the previous model year. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto was another one of our complaints, which has been introduced for MY2025. The cockpit shifts from analog to an 8-inch all-digital instrument cluster, and a new built-in 5G modem keeps vehicle software up to date.

The truck comes with Pro Trailer Hitch Assist, simplifying the alignment process with automated control of steering, braking, and speed. Additionally, Pro Trailer Backup Assist simplifies reversing with a trailer. Both features become standard on Lariat and Tremor trims.

Hopping into the Maverick Hybrid, I liked the visibility, space, and comfort up front. For MY2025, it is further digitized with a larger touchscreen with upgraded software, and a fully-digital instrument panel, making the cabin feel modern and complete.

Safety is also enhanced, with the standard Ford Co-Pilot 360 system offering Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane-Keeping Aid, Rear View Camera, and Auto LED High-Beam Headlamps. Higher trims add Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go, Lane Centering, and Speed Sign Recognition.

Pricing

Manufactured in Hermosillo, Mexico, the 2025 Ford Maverick Hybrid is currently available at dealers, priced from USD 26,995 to USD 37,290 (base MSRP excluding DPH fees). It remains to be seen how the situation with import tariffs play out in the coming months, and its impact on the Maverick’s pricing.
