Review: A Tech Twist on License Plates

We received a complementary RPlate to review and we must say, license plates are getting a futuristic upgrade.

Today, we’re taking a look at what could be the future of license plates. In the world of cutting-edge technology, even license plates are getting an upgrade. We recently had the chance to try out the Reviver Plate (RPlate) on our all-electric Fisker Ocean SUV, and it’s safe to say that it’s more than just a piece of metal with numbers and letters! Enthusiasts of the Fisker Ocean may find the RPlate somewhat familiar. The early prototype of the electric SUV sported one of these, introducing us to this innovative tech product.

Installation and Personalization Beyond the Ordinary

The installation process was surprisingly quick and easy. All we needed was a screwdriver. In just about 20 minutes, we had the RPlate securely mounted on the rear of our Fisker Ocean. Everything needed for installation was included in the package, making it hassle-free and accessible for even the non-tech-savvy car owners.

What sets the RPlate apart is its ability to go beyond the limitations of traditional license plates. We started by using it with our temporary California registration plate, which cleverly displayed the State of California graphic. When our permanent plate arrived, we took personalization to the next level by adding a custom message beneath our number—currently, “A Clean Future for All” as pictured above!

Tech Enthusiast’s Delight:

One feature that caught our attention is the anti-theft functionality. In the unfortunate event of vehicle theft, a simple press of a button in the app transforms the license plate into a bold “STOLEN” banner. While we hope to never use this feature, it’s reassuring to know that it’s there.

For tech enthusiasts, the RPlate is a cool gadget that seamlessly blends with the modern era. The integration of Bluetooth and national LTE wireless connectivity ensures constant connectivity and functionality. The license plate hardware pairs seamlessly with the Reviver mobile app, which is quite user-friendly too.

Designed to withstand the elements, the RPlate boasts a weatherproof display, ensuring durability in various conditions. For example, we’ve run our Fisker Ocean through various touchless car washes and the RPlate is unaffected. Looking ahead, the RPlate promises ongoing improvements, including optimizations and updated integrations for parking systems, digital wallets, vehicle safety recall, tolling systems, and multilingual support.

Digital Convenience

Another standout feature is the digital registration renewal, saving us from the traditional hassles of visiting the DMV. A simple push of a button in the app is all it takes to renew our registration when the time comes. Ours came with a 60-day service plan included. After this period, the service fee for the battery-powered RPlate is $8/month or $75.00/year. For instance, we opted for the annual plan for some additional savings. It’s a small price to pay for the convenience and futuristic capabilities that the RPlate brings to the table.

In the ever-evolving landscape of automotive technology, the Reviver Plate (RPlate) stands out as a unique and forward-thinking addition. We are quite pleased with the ease of use of our new digital license plate. From personalization to anti-theft features and digital convenience, it’s a cool gadget for those looking to add a tech twist to their driving and ownership experience. The RPlate has undeniably secured a permanent spot on our Fisker Ocean, further enhancing its already striking design!
