Alchemist Shop Simulator is fun but somewhat lacking in content. Though this didn’t put me off, its shallow nature will disappoint hardcore fans of the genre. Moreover, there is a sense of grind and this may be off-putting. However, if you can put these issues aside, you may fall for the medieval charms.
Kool2Play developed and published this single-player simulation experience. Furthermore, there are some business elements as you try to appease the locals and expand your magical potion-creating business. It can be stressful and hectic, but you will avoid every pitfall and thrive if you have a cool head.
Alchemist Shop Simulator treads common ground.
Like its peers, Alchemist Shop Simulator has a paper-thin plot. Though this wasn’t an issue, and it doesn’t hold back the action, I would have liked a story to get my teeth into. Instead, you are left to your own devices as you plan, expand, and turn around your failed business.
You play the role of an outlandish alchemist. His shop is musty, small, and downright dull. Yet, with some hard work, you’ll make the locals happy and the shop shine. The action opens in a haze. You awaken with no idea of what’s happening. Additionally, you are assisted by letters from an unknown individual. As the letter comes to its conclusion, you find out the author and things become clear. This cheeky twist was amusing and brought a smile to my face.
Simple mechanics.
The core gameplay loop is understated. The hero must grow plants or harvest them from their surroundings. On top of this, you must follow your recipes if you wish to make successful potions. Every ingredient can be purchased from the local merchant or snipped from plant pots in your backyard.
Once you have the required ingredients, you can brew some potions and fill your shelves. Eager punters will empty their coin purses as they buy every product you create. This was a highlight as I loved using the abacus to work out the change. Moreover, adjusting the prices to maximise your profit was a balancing act.
Where Alchemist Shop Simulator falls short is its lack of desire. Though watering your crops is essential, there is no rush to complete any tasks. Alongside this, there is no risk and this was frustrating. The developer needs to add more obstacles while balancing the core elements.
Alchemist Shop Simulator has a pleasant but basic finish.
Visually, this genre rarely blows me away. However, Alchemist Shop Simulator impressed me with its pleasant but basic finish. The world is colourful and the people have a funny “ye olde” appearance. Furthermore, I liked the brewing animation and the smooth movement.
The audio is rudimentary but enjoyable. There is a folksy edge to proceedings and this matches the fantasy and medieval theme. Though the sound effects weren’t incredible, they were good and interesting to listen to. Consequently, Alchemist Shop Simulator sounds good without blowing you away.
Easy to master controls.
The developer has done a great job with the control system. The thorough tutorial is straightforward and you will be up and running immediately. Furthermore, selecting your seeds and harvesting crops was easy to master. Subsequently, this is great for newbie gamers.
The lack of depth was disappointing. As such, replay value and longevity aren’t at the fore. Sadly, once you’ve unlocked every potion, there is little reason to return. What’s more, the repetitive action prevents you from binge playing.
Alchemist Shop Simulator needs some more content.
I’ve enjoyed every aspect of this game. It was fun and the atmosphere and visuals are pleasant. However, it could do with more depth to push it forward. I’m hoping that the developers keep working on their project and this goes from strength to strength. Though it isn’t perfect, I enjoyed it and recommend buying it here! Can you run the perfect business? Pick your ingredients, improve your shop, and become a world-famous alchemist.
