Did you know that ASUS also has a lineup of laptops called the ExpertBook? They’re meant for enterprises and businesses. They used to have ExpertBook B series already – and now, ASUS expands the ExpertBook series with th new P series – and here are the two laptops.
These are the ExpertBook P1 and P5. The main difference between the P and B series is that the P series cannot be built-to-order with custom specs. Only the B series has that privilege. Both the Expertbook P and B series have the same aftersales service.
In this review, we’re talking about the ExpertBook P5 only.
The main highlight of the new ExpertBook P series is the slew of AI features built-in. They’re all housed within the ASUS AI ExpertMeet suite, and it can do a lot of actually useful things.
This app is still in beta, but we can already make use of four different features. First, we have the AI transcription – we can use the laptop itself to record everything or transfer the recording from somewhere else, then feed it into the software to generate the meeting minutes.
Is the transcription too long? We can search within that transcription and edit it too!
We can then generate an AI summary of the entire transcription. These are super handy features to have. For our example here, it’s not the most accurate. It’s mostly due to the accent that I have because if I downloaded someone’s sample meeting minutes with an American accent, it works a lot better.
After everything is done, we can the translate it to other languages. More to be added soon, by the way.
But… doing anything is just… super slow. But hey – at least it uses the NPU if it’s present.
The AI translated subtitles is actually an amazing feature – especially on Windows PCs. It opens a pop-up and this translates everything. We can enable the microphone to literally pick up all audio and translate it to the supported languages, and it can also pick up audio playing your desktop too – like the YouTube video you’re watching.
All the audio transcribed and translated will be kept in a log that we can export out.
According to ASUS, this entire ExpertMeet suite of AI features is running locally on your device and no data is collected. We can verify that it does run locally since this laptop’s fan goes into full speed and the task manager shoots up while we’re transcribing the meeting minutes.
And then, we also have a very interesting feature to literally add a watermark to what we’re showing in apps like Microsoft Teams or Zoom. First, we can add a name card as a kind of identifier. That’s useful in a rountable discussion type of call.
Secondly, we can customize and add a watermark across the entire screen – very useful for those who are literally showing confidential stuff on Microsoft Teams or Zoom, or even through an external screen.
Many other AI features that are found in other ASUS laptops are also still here – like the AI noise cancellation mic is also here as well. All of these features can be accessed via the ASUS ExpertPanel widget at the bottom right corner. Very handy, actually.
As for the ExpertBook P5, this is for those who need the extra battery life and is probably aimed towards the managerial role within the company – and it comes equipped with the latest Intel Core Ultra 7 258V with 32GB of RAM at 8533MT/s and also 1TB of storage. So yes, if you need the best battery life possible – this laptop can provide it. We already reviewed 3 laptops using the Intel Core Ultra 7 258V and it can last for a very long time on battery.
The screen though, also got an upgrade. The color gamut coverage and the brightness have both improved by a lot – and even got upgraded to a higher resolution of 2560×1600 pixel display so that we can show our PowerPoint presentations or videos to clients better, I guess. It even has a 144Hz refresh rate too! Not sure why someone would need such a display for work, but I’m not complaining.
This laptop’s screen also has a matte finish, making it comfortable to look indoors and outdoors.
The keyboard on the ExpertBook P5 is also reminiscent of some of the newer ASUS laptop keyboards. They’re springy and responsive, though the travel distance is a bit short for my taste. Still, fantastic keyboard. The trackpad is also huge – making it comfortable to use.
We also have a very good selection of ports here too. There are:
- 2x Thunderbolt 4 ports
- HDMI
- 3.5mm combo audio jack
- 2x USB-A with 10Gb/s
Should you buy the ExpertBook P5?
Whether or not the ExpertBook P series is meant for you – it really depends on you and your company’s usage. I can’t really relate to how you’ll want to use these features because we’re a media company that makes videos. The AI transcription feature is useful for us though.
The ExpertBook series is tiered according to how a company’s roles are tiered – so you should check out the catalog before making a purchase.
