Bangarang bucks my recent gaming trend. I’ve covered Don’t Be a Dik Dik and Hands Off My Pecker. Both of these card games are unashamedly aimed at adults. However, Bangarang is a family-friendly affair that is fun, loud, and pretty darn hectic. Accordingly, it is the ideal game for family get-togethers or Christmas day.
This short, sharp round-based experience is aimed at gamers aged 8+. Sadly, younger gamers will become confused and may not understand the finer elements of the rules. Yet, our 6-year-old enjoyed the silly actions and raucous behaviour. This funny game combines Pictionary and Charades. As such, plenty is going on as everyone helps the guesser solve the problem.
What’s in the box of Bangarang?
- The packaging is colourful and strong. Inside, the contents are snug and this prevents you from losing any bits.
- Bangarang has 80 clue cards. Consequently, there are plenty of rounds to play before things get repetitive.
- A whiteboard allows you to draw plenty of pictures.
- A whiteboard marker is provided.

How do you play Bangarang?
Bangarang is a straightforward game. Players will grab a card with five clues. Your clue leads to a different item and it is your responsibility to act, sound, draw out, or use body language to explain your clue. At the start of each round, you must select a card that highlights which method you may use. After this, you have a short time to get through your clues and score as many points as possible.
This simple gameplay approach lasts 12 rounds. At the end of the game, the team with the highest score wins. Sometimes this isn’t easy to keep on top of as the madness unfolds. However, I found that the action was fun whether you were winning or losing. Consequently, I wasn’t too worried about the result.
Usability.
Child-friendly games must be easy to play and even easier to master. Luckily, Bangarang ticks both of these boxes. Though it took me a couple of rounds to get into the swing of things, I found it easy to explain the fundamentals. Moreover, my kids picked it up easily and they loved the miming and the drawing element.
Some clues may be alien to an 8-year-old. Subsequently, we had to make adjustments to the game to help them feel included. Yet, these problems were few and far between and they thrived in the team environment.
The toughest part of the game is keeping the score going and understanding when people get the clues right. With so many people shouting, it was easy to lose track. However, I found this to be funny rather than annoying, so it created an energetic and amusing atmosphere.
Build quality.
Card and board games have to take some rough and tumble. People get drunk and the contents get damaged. Luckily, this game is hard-wearing and made to last. The clue cards are chunky and easy to hold. Additionally, the font is easy to read and the contrasting colours are pleasant to the eye.
The whiteboard marker is small, so don’t expect to draw a masterpiece. Yet, this matters not as you don’t have time to go crazy. Instead, you’ll draw basic pictures to get your point across. The weak point is the whiteboard pen. The nib could become damaged so a gentle touch is needed to ensure longevity.
Is Bangarang worth it?
Family games and Christmas go hand-in-hand. Therefore, you’ll want to stock up on games that are fun but inoffensive. Thankfully, Bangarang is hilarious to play and just the right side of competitive. Accordingly, it makes for a great Christmas gift and I recommend buying it here!
