Review & Comparison – Lexar 128GB Professional 2000x UHS-II SDXC Memory Card

Recently, we needed an SD card. We ended up buying two Lexar 128GB Professional 1667x SD cards instead. now, we have another one – the Lexar 128GB Professional 2000x UHS-II SDXC Memory Card. Yeah, that’s the official name and it’s a mouthful. I’m just going to call this the Lexar 2000x card.

Now, our test here is going to be simple – a comparison between the two and see what’s the difference and why the 2000x is tiered higher than the 1667x card.

The unboxing

The entire SD card is packaged like this. It’s simple, and it has all of the details that you need. Most notably, this SD card can go up to 300MB/s read and 260MB/s write – as claimed by Lexar.

Then, we took out the SD card and it has a very nice golden sticker on it. That golden part is the differentiator between the 2000x and 1667x SD cards.

Benchmarks

We did two sets of benchmarks. The first one is with the famous CrystalDiskMark with all settings in default. Through this test, we can see that both these cards have more or less the same sequential read speed, but the write speed on the 2000x is a lot better.

Then, we also did another benchmark using my M1 Pro MacBook Pro. Our tool of choice is the Blackmagic Disk Speed Test app. We also set the file size to 5GB – the highest possible – because video file formats can easily hit multiple gigabytes per file – so that 5GB file size is meant to simulate that.

From there, we can see that the read speeds remain more or less the same, but the write speed tanks on both SD cards. However, the 2000x is about double the write speed of the 1667x.

Should you buy the Lexar 128GB Professional 2000x UHS-II SDXC Memory Card?

Clearly, the 2000x SD card is a lot better – but as we’ve shown in our benchmarks, the read speeds remain more or less the same between the two but the write speed is the main difference.

If you record videos at 4K resolution – be it 30fps or 60fps – or even 8K resolution, then you’ll need the higher-speed Lexar 2000x Gold SD card. You can even record at higher bitrates too, and the SD card can handle it because of its fast write speeds.

The price of this card though, is quite high. It’s priced at USD $169.99 or RM724.90. It surely is expensive but the performance speaks for itself.

Moreover, Lexar also promised that the card is rigorously tested through their own Lexar Quality Labs that tests for performance, quality, compatibility, and reliability. I can tell you that we have two Lexar 1667x 128GB SD cards and both of them have been in service for about a year and they’ve gone through lots of read-write cycles, and still functioning like new.

And hey – it comes with lifetime warranty too!
