Review of VLSI Patent Challenged by Intel Advances at Tribunal


A panel of administrative patent judges denied a request from VLSI Technology LLC that it revisit a decision to scrutinize the validity of a patent behind the company’s $2 billion infringement verdict against Intel Corp.

In March 2021, jurors in Waco, Texas, found that Intel infringed two semiconductor patents. They attributed $675 million of the damages to infringement of US Patent No. 7,725,759.

During the course of the lawsuit, Intel filed petitions to have the Patent Trial and Appeal Board institute inter partes reviews—trials examining if patents should’ve been granted to begin with. The PTAB initially demurred due to …
