Review – OPPO A77s | Nasi Lemak Tech

Okay, the OPPO A77s. This is going to be a very simple phone to review because it’s considered quite an entry-ish level phone. So, let’s speedrun through it.

We’ll start off with the design. It has a plastic back and the one we have is in the Sky Blue color. I really like how it looks and the color also shifts when light is reflected at a certain angle.

It is also made in a matte finish so it does feel really nice to touch and it doesn’t catch any fingerprints.

The screen of the phone is rather interesting. It is an IPS LCD screen with 90Hz refresh rate but the resolution is only 1612×720. I had to double-check because, from my eyes, it does look like a 1080p screen.

We did our color accuracy test as well – and it’s really good as it covers 99.53% of sRGB and 96.17% of DCI-P3 color gamuts. It’s excellent to know that they sacrificed the resolution without sacrificing the colors.

As for the maximum brightness, it can only go up to about 420 nits – which means it’ll suffer under sunlight, even when it’s gloomy.

As for the performance, I’m not really going to talk about it much as we can play Genshin Impact at the lowest graphical settings with relatively okay frame rates. Goes to show that the Snapdragon 680 is actually quite powerful. Granted, it really doesn’t look good since we’re playing it at 720p resolution and at the lowest graphical settings.

Okay, the battery life. We ran the PCMark 10 battery life test at 100 nits brightness and it ran for about 17 hours. The app crashed at the end of the test – because all OPPO phones do that – and I gotta say, this battery life is insanely good. I mean, I’m not expecting anything different since this is a low-powered chip anyway.

Then comes the charging speed. This phone comes with a 33W charger and to charge that 5,000mAh battery, it tasks about 63 minutes. Pretty good.

As for the software, OPPO A77s comes with ColorOS 12.1 and we’ve encountered this version of ColorOS in many of our past reviews – so nothing special here. We still have a lot of bloatware, by the way.

ColorOS 12.1 works as intended and I don’t have any major issues with it – so that’s good.

The camera though, is weird. Remember – I said the word in singular form. “Camera”. That is because the second camera is unusable.

I gotta say, the camera picture quality is actually very good. Certain shots like this look amazing – it captured the colors and details excellently. But in certain shots, the color just becomes completely flat.

A few more things to mention – this phone still comes with an audio jack at the bottom, and it still has a triple card slot! You can fit in double nano SIM cards and a microSD card – all at the same time.

At the price of RM999 though, I think it’s rather expensive – but with everything raising in price, I think it is a rather acceptable price.
