Alongside these key elements, you can map the rear buttons on the fly and use a wired headset with ease. What’s more, the buttons feel great, and the controller is responsive, and doesn’t feel cheap. However, its standout feature has to be the stunning Sonic livery. The rich blue colour palette and excellent character model are pleasant to look at. Accordingly, this wouldn’t look out of place when placed next to high-end gaming paraphernalia.

Moreover, mapping the buttons is a user-friendly experience.
The custom buttons can be changed whenever you wish. By pressing the central rear button, gamers can adjust their setup according to the genre they are playing. This was great, as the biggest of technophobes can use this pad with ease. Alongside this, the 3 trigger pressure points were another great feature. By flicking each switch, you can reduce or increase travel distance. Accordingly, if you are playing an FPS, you’ll want quicker reactions. Alternatively, a slower and more methodical game can use the full trigger distance without concern.
To be wired or wireless, that is the question.
Wired Vs wireless gaming is a massive debate. Both approaches have their strengths and weaknesses. Yet, I appreciate a wired setup, as it is trouble-free and can be used on multiple platforms. Additionally, you no longer need to worry about battery life. As such, you can game to your heart’s content without losing juice.
Where the PowerA Wired Sonic Xbox controller excels is the removable cable. There are plenty of hard-wired alternatives that seem a great idea. However, if the cable becomes damaged, the controller is useless. Thanks to the removable cable, this issue can be forgotten.
Build quality.
I couldn’t help but love the smooth and steady thumbsticks. The anti-friction rings allow you to game without issue. Moreover, each additional button is well placed and using them is comfortable and intuitive. Furthermore, the well-positioned 3.5mm audio jack point allows you to game freely.
Another element I liked was the tactile handles. This colour-matched layer enhances grip without reducing the excellent aesthetic. Talking of aesthetics, the Sonic the Hedgehog theme will please many people. This much-loved character has seen a resurgence in popularity. Accordingly, this controller will be loved by young and older gamers alike.
Is the PowerA Wired Sonic Xbox controller worth it?
Buying a decent controller is normally an expensive ask. However, the PowerA Wired Sonic Xbox controller is inexpensive. This was a surprise when you consider every feature on offer.
