    If you’ve been looking at jumping on the video doorbell bandwagon but the expense or need to recharge or replace batteries has put you off, Ring’s new Video Doorbell Wired takes care of both of those issues. Priced at a reasonable $60 and wired into the mains, Ring’s new offering takes care of both those issues.

    Sporting 1080p video with night vision, two-way audio, and support for Amazon’s Alexa, Ring’s Video Doorbell Wired offers the essential features, and you can access more advanced options if you sign up for a Ring Protect subscription:

    • Advanced Pre-Roll, which gives you up to six seconds of high-definition video from before motion is detected for additional context on what triggered the Ring alert;
    • People Only Mode, which sets your Ring Video Doorbell Wired to only alert you when it detects motion caused by people;
    • Rich Notifications, which sends you a still image from your doorbell camera as a preview in the pop-up notification, so you can see at a glance what triggered the alert, without even opening the Ring App;
    • Snapshot Capture, which automatically takes snapshots at intervals during the day so you can review what’s happened in front of your doorbell, even in between events.

    The Ring Protect subscription will cost you $3 monthly or $30 for the year and you can use the 30-day trial to see if it’s something you would appreciate having.

    You’ll need to connect it to your mains power supply which will take some DIY know-how, and if you want a chime you’ll need to buy one from Ring for an additional $20.
