Russia-Ukraine: Furious Russian smashes Apple iPad in retaliation for sale ban | World | News

Apple has stopped selling iPhones and other popular products in Russia in response to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The company is one of the latest major corporations to boycott the country following the invasion ordered by Russian President Vladimir Putin last week. In the video shared by BBC’s Francis Scarr, the man smashes his iPad with a hammer before handing it over to son to destroy.

He said: “Here’s our response to American sanctions! We don’t fear you!

“We’ll live without your nice ‘pretty’ things!”

Fellow tech giants Google and Twitter have also cut down their business in Russia.

As well as halting product sales, Apple says its mobile app store is blocking downloads of RT News and Sputnik News from outside Russia.

It also has stopped live traffic updates on Apple Maps in Ukraine as a safety measure, similar to action Google has already taken.

“We will continue to evaluate the situation and are in communication with relevant governments on the actions we are taking,” the company said in its statement.

“We join all those around the world who are calling for peace.”

It is not known how much of Apple’s roughly 365 billion dollar (£274 billion) annual revenue comes from Russia.

“Against the backdrop of the continuing war, Asos has decided that it is neither practical nor right to continue to trade in Russia, and has therefore today suspended our sales there.

“Our thoughts are with the people of Ukraine and all those affected in the region.”

Google has removed Russian state-funded publishers including RT, which is under investigation by UK regulator Ofcom, from its features and limited its Google Pay service.

Nike’s Russian website was also down and not accepting delivery orders, although customers were encouraged to visit stores instead, which remain open.
