Samsung begins rolling out the February Security Patch to the 3-year-old Galaxy S9 and S9+

A three-year-old Samsung smartphone not only receiving a security patch but getting it before the Google Pixel? It’s far too early for April Fool’s Day jokes, this is actually happening. Having launched in early 2018, the Galaxy S9 and S9+ are now receiving the February 2021 security patch via OTA.

The over-the-air update brings the build version up to G960FXXSEFUA1 (S9) and G965FXXSEFUA1 (S9+). Already rolling out globally, if your Galaxy S9 or S9+ hasn’t already notified you that it’s available to download and install it should do so in the next few days. You can also see if you can manually prompt Samsung’s servers by opening up the Settings app, clicking on Software Update, and giving the old Download and Install button a tap.

While the early nature of February’s security patch is a surprise, it’s just another sign of how Samsung has realized that people expect regular software and security updates for their smartphones, especially during a time where we are keeping our current handsets longer before upgrading.
