Samsung confirms new ‘Galaxy S25 Edge’ to rival rumored iPhone 17 Air

Samsung made a slew of announcements today at its Unpacked 2025 event today, headlined by the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+, and Galaxy S25 Ultra.

At the end of the event, however, Samsung also dropped a surprise teaser for its forthcoming ultra-thin Galaxy S25 Edge. Samsung’s teaser comes ahead of Apple’s rumored release of its ultra-thin smartphone, the iPhone 17 Air, later this year.

Our friends over at 9to5Google were in the crowd for today’s Unpacked 2025 event. The teaser for the Galaxy S25 Edge didn’t reveal many details about the device. There’s still no word on an exact release date, though rumors suggest the device could launch as soon as April or May. Samsung has also not revealed any specs for the device. Again, today’s teaser consisted of virtually no information other than the “Galaxy S25 Edge” naming.

A report earlier this month suggested that the Galaxy S25 Edge will be around 6.4mm thick. Apple’s iPhone 17 Air, however, will reportedly be in the realm of 5.5mm at its thinnest point.

Samsung reportedly started work on the Galaxy S25 Edge after the first rumors of the iPhone 17 Air surfaced last May, according to one supply chain report.

According to leaked renders shared by SmartPrix earlier this month, the Galaxy S25 Edge will feature three cameras on the back. The iPhone 17 Air, meanwhile, is expected to feature a single 48MP camera housed in a horizontal “camera bar” style design.

In an interview with Bloomberg today, TM Roh, president of Samsung’s mobile devices business, elaborated on the idea of the Galaxy S25 Edge:

The Edge will use some of the same technologies as the new Ultra model, but fit them inside a slimmed-down design. Customers want the “best performance, the best camera features, the best AI, but at the same time they want an even more attractive form factor that stands out among the pack,” Roh said in the interview.

“We’ve been trying to combine all the advantages of the S25 Ultra in a slimmer form factor,” he said.

“Our goal is to position this at pricing that is lower than the Ultra models, so it’s more accessible and has more customers,” Roh said.

Again, there’s no word on a release date or pricing for the Galaxy S25 Edge. You can, however, pre-order Samsung’s other new flagship devices with an exclusive $50 discount using our links below:
