No Rear Camera On The Galaxy S25 Ultra Will Be Less Than 50MP

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra has a rare quad-camera setup, thanks to the presence of two telephoto cameras instead of just one. The lower magnification unit provides 3x optical zoom and has a 10MP sensor. Then, there’s the ultrawide camera, which has a 12MP resolution. By modern standards, these are low megapixel counts for cameras in a time where 50MP is starting to seem like the smallest number for devices in the top tier.

Besides a 200MP primary camera, you can’t have numbers like 10MP and 12MP sticking out like a sore thumb and it seems that will finally change for the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra next year. According to Ice Universe, one of the most reliable Samsung tipsters, the S25 Ultra is going to stick to four cameras on the back (contrary to rumors that were flying around that it’d drop one camera).

In addition to that, they’ve also made it known that the 10MP 3x telephoto and the 12MP ultrawide will both be upgraded to 50MP sensors, which is huge news, considering that these two cameras have remained exactly the same since the days of the S21 Ultra, so it is a much-needed improvement.

Thanks to technologies like pixel binning, higher megapixel counts can be used for better image quality in low light. In the case of the 3x telephoto, it can also help out with zoom capabilities above the 3x mark (but below the 5x point where the other camera would take over) by using sensor cropping.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is in the future though, and some people might prefer talking about devices we can actually touch right now. Well, here’s some good news for Galaxy S24 users. Again, thanks to Ice Universe, we know that testing has started for One UI 6.1.1, which is expected to launch at some point after the company’s new foldables come out, which could be as early as July.

This update is said to be the biggest one since the launch of these devices, unsurprisingly, but what is interesting is that it is expected to come with “a lot of camera updates” in the mix, so this might be the big one to finally put all S24 camera-related complaints to rest for good.

For now, we’ll wait until the launch of the Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6, which should ship with One UI 6.1.1 out of the box, before we have a better idea of what to expect.
