If you need a new monitor that supports high refresh gaming, look no further: Samsung’s 32-inch Odyssey G7 monitor is on sale for $530 today. That’s a $270 discount from the original MSRP, complete with a 4K resolution, IPS panel, and smart software features.
The 32″ Odyssey G7 (G70D) monitor has AMD FreeSync Premium support, a 4K resolution, 144Hz refresh rate with 1ms response time, and DisplayHDR 400. The screen uses an IPS panel, so you don’t get the deep blacks of a typical OLED screen, but it’s a step up from the VA panels used in most gaming monitors around this price range.
For connectivity, the monitor has one DisplayPort 1.4, two USB 3.0 Type-A connections (with a USB-B port for the upstream connection to your PC), two HDMI 2.1 ports, Wi-Fi 5, and Bluetooth 5.2. The DisplayPort will offer the best compatibility with high refresh rate and HDR modes, so make sure to use that one if possible. If you have two or more devices at your desk that need to use the monitor, keep in mind there’s only one DisplayPort connection.
It’s also worth noting that there’s no USB Type-C port. If you need to connect a laptop or other device that only has USB-C ports, you’ll need a simple adapter cable or laptop docking station. It’s a bit annoying that this monitor can’t act as a complete USB-C hub, but that won’t matter for most desktops and gaming PCs.
This is one of Samsung’s ‘Smart Monitor’ models, meaning it has a similar Tizen-based operating system as the company’s smart TVs. That allows you to watch streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Twitch, YouTube, Disney+, and Apple TV+ without connecting anything to the monitor. Some game streaming services, like Xbox Cloud Gaming and Amazon Luna, also work directly on the monitor when you connect a Bluetooth controller.
