Today, March 11th welcomes the Samsung Galaxy A35 to the company’s latest lineup of Galaxy A smartphones. This device is more budget-focused than Samsung’s S or Z options, aiming for the middle of the price ladder. Let’s discuss this newly released smartphone and what you get with it.

The Design

The Galaxy A35 is a good-looking phone in a very uncomplicated way. It has a flat plastic back panel with three cameras arranged in a vertical column and an LED flash. The display is flat, and the selfie camera is punch-hole, a change from the teardrop camera on the Galaxy A34.

The major upgrade design-wise is the “Key Island” feature on the flat plastic frame. Instead of being flat across the entire frame, the part with the power button and the volume rocker is raised, forming an “island” for those keys.

The device comes in Awesome Ice Blue, Awesome Lilac, Awesome Lemon, and Awesome Navy.

The Software

The Galaxy A35 will run on Android 14 and One UI 6.1 and will support four years of major operating system updates and five years of security updates.

Samsung looks keen on taking security seriously this year. The Galaxy A comes with Samsung Knox Vault (the first time it will be on an A series smartphone), a security system meant to protect against hardware and software attacks. This works together with Samsung Knox in ways that are probably beyond my expertise to explain.

The Screen

The display is a 6.6-inch 120Hz Super AMOLED with FHD+ resolution. It’s not too different from its predecessor’s screen, but it remains a good display on paper, so that shouldn’t be too much of a problem. Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+ protects it.

The Internal Hardware

When it comes to the pieces inside the Samsung Galaxy A35 that make it tick, things are only a little different from the phone’s predecessor. For instance, the major difference is that Samsung has moved back to an Exynos chip, the Exynos 1380, for all territories. Last year’s Galaxy A34 used a MediaTek module.

In addition, you’ll get either 6GB of RAM with 128GB or 256GB of storage or 8GB of RAM with 256GB of storage. The battery is 5,000 mAh and can be charged at 25W max. It’s another year of 25W as the ceiling for most Samsung devices (only a few get 45W), so we hope next year will bring faster charging.

The Cameras

The cameras aren’t too different from the A34’s snappers. The selfie module is a 13MP option, while the primary lens is 50MP with OIS (a slight upgrade over 48MP last year), with an 8MP ultrawide and 5MP macro. You’ll be able to record at 4K and 30fps on the front and back of the phone.

The Pricing

The Galaxy A series is prized for its modern designs, relatively premium builds, and affordable prices. The Galaxy A35 will start at about $415, which isn’t a bad starting point.

At that price, do you think you’ll be interested in getting the Samsung Galaxy A35, or will you choose the higher-end model, the Galaxy A55? Let us know in the comments.
