Samsung’s Refurbished Galaxy S23 Phones Now Start at $619

Samsung released its new flagship Galaxy S24 smartphones earlier this year, but not everyone can get a great deal from a carrier or spend $1,300 for an unlocked S24 Ultra. Now you can buy last year’s S23 phones for slightly less money, through Samsung’s ‘Certified Re-Newed’ program.

Samsung has now added the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 Plus, and Galaxy S23 Ultra to its Certified Re-Newed program in the United States. The phones are refurbished—likely a mix of repaired units and open-box returns—complete with a one-year warranty and the latest One UI 6.1 update preinstalled. The phones should be as close to brand new as possible, backed by “extensive testing & genuine parts and assembled by Samsung engineers.”

The Galaxy S23 Re-Newed will start at $619, with both 128GB and 256GB storage options available. That’s not a bad price for a flagship phone that is only a year old, but you could also get a new Galaxy S23 FE for $600. That phone has a larger screen (6.4 vs. 6.1 inches) and a larger battery (4,500 mAh vs 3,900 mAh), but uses a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset instead of the newer Gen 2 in the regular S23. If you want a bigger screen, the S23 FE is probably the better buy right now.

The Galaxy S23 Plus Re-Newed will start at $769, with 256GB and 512GB storage options. Finally, the Galaxy S23 Ultra Re-Newed starts at $919 with 256GB storage, and a 512GB version is also available. Those aren’t terrible deals, but they aren’t far off from the typical prices for Galaxy S24 phones. The Galaxy S24 Plus costs $1,000 right now and has been on sale for $850 a few times.

The Galaxy S23 series still has excellent hardware, but the phones are now over a year into their planned support cycle. Samsung promised four years of Android operating system updates when the Galaxy S23 phones were released, and that’s down to three years at this point. The Galaxy S24 phones are guaranteed to have seven years of support, and the phones are only a few months into that timeline right now.

You can buy Samsung’s Certified Re-Newed phones from the company’s online store.
