Chromebooks are great but as someone who likes having a big screen in front of him when working at home or traveling, I’ve always lamented the lack of a 17-inch option. It seems that Acer heard my pleas because its new Chromebook 317 sports a big 17.3-inch display with FHD+ resolution and will go on sale in the US with a price starting from $379.

Powered by the latest Intel Celeron processors, Acer’s Chromebook 317 also supports WiFi 6 (Gig+) and is capable of up to 10 hours of battery life. The 17.3-inch display has relatively narrow bezels with an anti-glare coating, and it will also be available with a touchscreen option.

A full-size keyboard with a numerical keypad is present, as are a couple of upward-firing speakers. There are a couple of full-featured USB 3.2 Type-C ports, 2 x USB-A ports, a headphone jack, and a slot for a MicroSD card. One port that is missing is the HDMI socket, which is unfortunate. As mentioned, the Chromebook 317 goes on sale in the US and Europe in June with prices starting from $379/£399.

If a 17.3-inch Chromebook is a bit on the large side for you, Acer also announced a bunch of regular-sized Chromebooks with 13.5-inch and 14-inch displays.

The Acer Chromebook Spin 713 has been upgraded with 11th Gen Intel Core i7 processors and is Intel Evo-platform certified. Sporting a MIL-STD 810H certified aluminum chassis, the Spin 713 has two full-function USB Type-C ports with Thunderbolt 4 for high-speed data transfers, power delivery, and sharing audiovisual content to external displays.

The 13.5-inch VertiView display has 2256 x 1504 resolution which is complimented by DTS Audio and a built-in smart amplifier for distortion-free sound. Weighing in at just 1.37KG and just 16.9mm thin, the Spin 713 has a ten-hour battery life with a 30-minute charge resulting in 4-hours of usage. Acer’s Chromebook Spin 713 goes on sale in the US with prices starting from $699 and in Europe from August starting at $769.

The Chromebook 514 with its 14-inch display is powered by Intel’s 11th Gen Intel Core processors, supports WiFi 6, and features a quick-charging battery that is good for up to 10 hours of usage. There’s two full-function USB Type-C ports with Thunderbolt 4, a backlit keyboard, and the option of an embedded fingerprint sensor for added security. Going on sale in Europe during August, and the US in October, Acer’s Chromebook 514 is priced from €549 and $599 respectively.

He’s been an Android fan ever since owning an HTC Hero, with the Dell Streak being his first phablet. He currently carries an OPPO Find X2 Pro in his pockets, a Galaxy Tab S5e in his backpack, and thinks nothing of lugging a 17-inch laptop around the world. When not immersed in the world of Android and gadgets, he’s an avid sports fan, and like all South Africans, he loves a good Braai (BBQ).
