Suspicion, theft by deception: Chagrin Boulevard
Beachwood police notified officers in Orange at 3:30 a.m. Oct. 19 that they were out at the BP gas station and Uni-Mart on Chagrin and Richmond Road investigating suspicious activity involving a man at the Bitcoin automated teller machine, available for digital and cryptocurrency conversion.
Officers added that the suspect happened to be an employee of the Shell True North gas station due east on Chagrin in Orange.
Officers from both departments then went to the Orange Shell True North — listed on the initial report as the victim, involving a loss or stolen amount of $2,840 in cash — to meet with the employee in question and gather information for a subsequent report, with no further details available at that time.
Speeding, fictitious license plates, no operator’s license, having a weapon under disability, improperly handling a firearm, warrants served: Chagrin Boulevard
A patrol officer clocked a 2007 Chevy Impala going 43 mph in a 25 mph zone at 11:20 a.m. Oct. 23 and followed the car into the Shell True North gas station as the two occupants parked at a pump and tried to hurry into the store.
Police then found that the temporary tag displayed on the Impala belonged to a 2011 Honda Pilot, as well as the fact that neither the driver nor the passenger had a valid driver’s license.
The passenger, a Cleveland man, 24, had two active warrants from the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Office for felonious assault with a weapon and later admitted that a Smith & Wesson handgun loaded with nine rounds and found under the passenger’s seat was his.
He may face additional charges pending lab results on 3 grams of an as-yet unknown substance tied up in a bag and found on his person, along with a digital scale. He was taken to the Cuyahoga County Jail.
The driver, a Cleveland man, 25, was issued three citations and the car was towed.
Receiving stolen property, driving under suspension: Chagrin Boulevard
Police were alerted to an Enterprise rental car listed as stolen from Cleveland that was traveling east on Chagrin Boulevard at 4:25 p.m. Oct. 23.
They caught up with the 2021 Nissan Sentra a short time later at the Woodmere Speedway gas station, and found that the driver, a North Ridgeville woman, 27, had a misdemeanor warrant issued in her own town, for which the police department placed a holder.
Warrant served, driving under suspension; auto towed: Chagrin Boulevard, Orange Place
Police were alerted to an orange 2022 Chevy Silverado driving through the village at 7:24 p.m. Oct. 22, whose owner had an active felony warrant with the county for a weapons offense, as well as a suspended license from a previous impaired driving offense.
Police soon found the pickup truck in the lot at Pinecrest, where the driver and suspect, a Cleveland Heights man, 39, said he had driving privileges for work purposes, but admitted he was out that evening to attend a birthday party — in violation of the court-issued driving privileges.
The truck was impounded and he was transported to the county jail.
Physical control of a vehicle while under the influence: Chagrin Boulevard
Police responded to a report of a man sleeping in a 2020 Dodge Charger at the Shell True North station just before 8 p.m. Oct. 23 and arrived to find that the engine was still running.
Officers woke him up and told him to shut off the car. Asked where he was going, he pointed to the Extended Stay North motel across the street.
The Moran, Wyo., man, 63, said he’s had one beer with his daughter and three at the golf course, but later registered .192 blood-alcohol content on the Breathalyzer, more than double the legal limit of .08 BAC.
