Sony Xperia 1 VI Leak Reveals Specs And A Tweaked Design

Here’s Your Look at the Sony Xperia 1 VI in All Its Glory

Courtesy of OnLeaks (via Android Headlines), a massive new leak, including the Sony Xperia 1 VI’s 360° video and renders, reveals what the smartphone will look like. And if you were expecting a design change, you’ll have to hold your expectations for now, because the phone almost looks reminiscent of its predecessors.

Although Sony’s design language for its smartphones has been the same over the years, it offers different color options with each release. But, these colors are typically limited to three, with black always being one of them. This year, too, black is one of the options, as you can see in these images.

Sony Could Finally Be Giving Up on the 21:9 Aspect Ratio

According to Android Headlines, the Sony Xperia 1 VI will be a bit shorter, wider, and thicker.
The phone will measure 161.9 x 74.5 x 8.4mm. In contrast, the Xperia 1 V’s dimensions were 165 x 71 x 8.3 mm.

The change in the measurement further strengthens an older leak of Sony finally opting for a more comfortable aspect ratio of around 19.5:9. The previous Sony smartphones, with a 21:9 ratio, felt oddly tall. However, it helped for better media consumption, as most movies are shot in a similar aspect ratio.

Additionally, the report mentions that the Sony Xperia 1 VI, like its predecessor, will come equipped with a 6.5-inch display. Therefore, despite the change in aspect ratio, the display size would remain the same.

The Xperia 1 VI Will Miss out on a 4K Display

Last week, we also learned that Sony could be ditching the 4K display in the Xperia 1 VI in favor of a QHD+ display. Interestingly, Sony is currently the only brand with 4K smartphones, as all other flagship phones get a QHD+ display at max – a trend Sony is also shifting to.

Giving up on the 4K display would help the company price its phone a little lower, as the Xperia 1 V launched with a heavy price tag of $1399. These changes, aligning Sony’s phones more in line with other mainstream smartphones, suggest Sony could target a wider audience with its upcoming smartphones.

Details regarding the launch are scarce at this moment. It was previously rumored that Sony would unveil the Xperia 1 VI during the MWC 2024, but that didn’t happen. Now, if we go by the launch dates of previous Xperia phones, you can expect Sony to launch the Xperia 1 VI this month. Its predecessors, the Xperia 1 V and Xperia 1 IV, were announced on May 11, 2023, and May 11, 2022, respectively.

Sony also unveiled the Xperia 10 V and Xperia 10 IV along with these phones, but there are no details about the Xperia 10 VI yet. Could it be that the Xperia 10 VI will have a delayed launch this year? Only time will tell. You can stay connected to Sony Xperia’s official YouTube channel, where the company usually announces its smartphones.
