Sony’s best 4K TV for Xbox Series X and PS5 is now cheaper than ever

Cyber Monday has discounted the 50-inch Sony X90J to $898 at Amazon, marking the lowest price to date for one of the manufacturer’s top 4K TVs. The X90J debuted in Sony’s 2021 BRAVIA lineup, the latest in its mid-range 4K LED TVs, outputting great images coupled with a relatively affordable price point. It’s overall a strong TV, packing several gaming features, with considerations for new consoles like Xbox Series X and PS5.

The X90J isn’t the absolute best 4K TV for Xbox Series X and PS5, but you’re not getting much better than this with its price bracket. Discounted Cyber Monday pricing undercuts many of our favorites by the hundreds, positioned as a premium entry within the mid-range. That includes 4K gaming up to 120Hz, with onboard HDMI 2.1 connectivity, coupled with other enhancements that directly benefit next-gen gaming.

Cyber Monday sees the X90J drop to $898 at Amazon, a $202 saving on the usual $1,099.99 RRP. While the TV has fallen below $1,000 in previous sales, its 50-inch model has just bested a record low.

Sony’s X90J pumps out great 4K images with an LED panel that delivers high contrast and brightness. It’s a solid middle-ground for those who want stand-out visuals without investing in costlier OLED or Mini LED alternatives. It’s also equipped to handle Xbox Series X and PS5, although with a few features still to come with a future update.

    $898 at Amazon (Was $1,099)

This X90J model ships with a 50-inch LED panel, supporting up to 4K resolutions, cranking up to a 120Hz refresh rate. Image quality impresses at the price, with high contrast and vivid colors, enabled by a solid local dimming feature designed to improve black levels in some scenes. While 4K OLEDs like the LG C1 deliver better overall images, you’re getting a much brighter image here while shaving at least $200 off the price.

Sony also joins the market in adapting its 4K TVs for next-generation gaming with its HDMI 2.1 support helping support 4K visuals at 120Hz, simultaneously. It supports all popular HDR standards, including Dolby Vision. However, it won’t output Dolby Vision with 4K resolution and 120Hz simultaneously, as recently adopted by Xbox Series X.

You’re also not getting variable refresh rate (VRR), and auto low latency mode (ALLM) support out of the box, both designed to enable smooth and responsive gameplay. While Sony has promised to deliver both features in a future update, it took over a year to arrive on the Sony X900H from 2020.

However, the X90J remains a strong 4K TV, well-suited to next-generation gaming, albeit with some compromises in its current state. While we don’t recommend buying products for future updates still to come, you’re still getting a solid picture at a price that undercuts the closest competition.
