Tecno made headlines during MWC 2023 when it unveiled what was the cheapest Galaxy Fold alternative called the Phantom V Fold 5G with a $1,220 price tag, and it’s now getting ready to launch a Galaxy Flip rival. Dubbed the Phantom V Flip, details about the clamshell foldable have naturally leaked a few days before its September 22nd launch and there’s even a brief hands-on video available.
Unusually for a flip phone, Tecno’s Phantom V Flip appears to have a circular cover display around 1,39-inches in size sat within a camera housing which reportedly features a 64MP main sensor and a 13MP ultra-wide lens. The inner display is thought to be 6.9-inches and feature FHD+ resolution.
Coming back to the circular cover display, it will be surprising if it offers a similar app experience to that of the Motorola Razr+. Instead, I would suspect that it will run specificly supported widgets ands a limited number off apps similar to Oppo’s Find N2 Flip with its vertical but rectangular cover display.
Powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 1300 chipset, the Phantom V Flip is also said to sport 8GB of memory and 256GB of built-in storage.
To add to the credence of the leaked video, the images above show that accessory-makers are already gearing up to sell cases for Tecno’s Phantom V Flip.
Given the basic nature of the leaked specifications, what do you think of the Phantom V Flip? We would estimate that the price would be a fair bit under the $1,000 threshold, but would would be your sweet spot? Let us know in the comments below.
