Spotify Wrapped 2024 launches with AI Podcast from Google

Spotify Wrapped 2024 is here and features an AI Podcast that’s “Built with Google’s NotebookLM.” Two AI hosts from the viral note-taking/research tool “unwrap” your year in music.

While Audio Overviews in NotebookLM use your uploaded documents to create a mini podcast, this Spotify version has a discussion about your listening history, including favorite songs, artists, and the “way your music taste evolved throughout 2024.”

It’s an engaging conversation all about your musical tastes, and each one is unique, generated just for you.

Google says it “had a lot of fun making these with Spotify.” This experience is co-branded, with the two company logos appearing side-by-side throughout.

To access, go to the “Wrapped” feed in Spotify’s Home tab on Android or iOS. “Your Wrapped AI Podcasts” appears near the top of the screen alongside Your Wrapped, Top Songs, and more. (Alternatively, you can visit: spotify.com/wrappedAIpodcast.)

You will then find a player to listen to it, with Spotify notably showing a “Try NotebookLM” link. The AI Podcast can be shared and downloaded directly to your device, which you might want to do now as it’s only available for a limited time.

Compared to other applications of generative AI, the accuracy stakes here are lower, but Google advises that “our AI hosts may occasionally mispronounce words and don’t always provide a comprehensive overview.”

The Spotify Wrapped AI podcast is available in English for eligible Free and Premium users in the US, UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Ireland, and Sweden. Meanwhile, Spotify’s AI DJ and AI Playlist are available in Wrapped. The latter lets you generate “a playlist of my top genres” or “artists similar to my top 5.”

Google previewed Audio Overviews at I/O 2024 and launched them in September to turn your documents, slides, and charts into an audio discussion. They’ve been a viral hit for their authenticity. In October, NotebookLM added the ability to “Customize” the mini podcast that’s generated by specifying what topics to focus on or the expertise level.
