Every elite squad needs the brainy, tech-savvy member. For The Bad Batch, that’s the cleverly named Tech. Less enthused about going into combat like his brothers, Tech is more fascinated with deciphering different Separatists devices while firing as few blasts as possible.
With Tech, I’m just about completed with my Black Series Bad Batch collection. All that’s left now is Echo in his Bad Batch getup. Let’s see if Tech is cutting edge enough or needs to head to the scrap heap.
Packaging: The Bad Batch’s dark red accent color scheme definitely helps distinguish them and visually tease this rough time for those standing against the Empire. Tech’s drawing features him wearing his helmet and going over his readouts.
He’s got an exceptional bio showcasing his skills and strengths in a short amount of space. Great bios can be done and is more of a matter of Hasbro committing to them with every wave and line.
Likeness: Tech sports a similar looking yet different armor setup. He lacks the prominent shoulder pads of Hunter and Crosshair while he has more pouches for his gadgets. His left gauntlet is more detailed with a read-out panel. In case you missed it earlier, his right glove has a gear sculpted on it to show he’s the gearhead of the team.
Overall, Tech has a lot less armor as his torso and legs aren’t covered. The sculpt on his fabric with the creases and folds is a nice touch. His holster is more intricate with an array of pouches and a flashlight, pincer and torch. The pouches also extend to his shins and ankles as well.
Tech has a very cool helmet with goggles instead of the traditional visor. The helmet also has a drop-down readout and ear pads that presumably contain his communication array. The singular slot for his mouthpiece in lieu of the slotted mouth section also helps him stand out.
Tech’s unmasked portrait looks the least like Jango Fett. It would have been nice to have glasses for Tech to wear without the helmet since he rarely walked around without them. That’s the one thing throwing off his likeness from the show.
Paint: Unlike the others, Tech sports more of a white armor with grey and red accents. That also makes him stand out, which seems counter intuitive for the least formidable fighter of the crew.
One area where the rest of the Bad Batch could have used more work on was paint damage to their outfits. Tech’s armor reflects a soldier that’s been in some major battles during the Clone Wars. There’s a great amount of chipping and scrapes along his armor. As far as paint issues, the slightest one is his hair edges could stand being a tad tighter, but that’s a real stretch in terms of complaints.
Scale: The Bad Batch are all the same height with the exception of Wrecker. Tech matches up just right with the others.
MORE:
Articulation: Tech features the same smooth articulation as Hunter so he’s a very smooth figure to pose.
Again, he’s got the wonky kneepad issue where the pad is actually higher than the knee. It’s not as drastic as it was with Hunter and Crosshair, but still looks a little weird.
Tech’s articulation is solid though allowing him to hit several poses.
Tech has:
- neck
- ball-jointed shoulders (with butterfly joints)
- elbow (with swivel)
- wrist
- wrist hinge
- torso
- hips
- thighs
- knees (double jointed)
- ankles
Accessories: Tech is loaded with a good amount of accessories.
Many are included in his utility belt. He’s got a set of tongs, a small hammer and a laser device(?)
He also has a small blaster. It’s very similar to Hunter’s smaller blaster and fits in his holster.
I’ve already covered the helmet. The paintwork on the helmet is stellar right down to the shiny gold for his goggles. His helmet’s visor also comes down in a nice touch.
Worth it? I got Tech before the price hike to $22.99. That’s a tough price for the basic $20 price tag although the way he’s staying on pegs there’s a decent chance he’ll be on sale soon.
Rating: 9.7 out of 10
If he had his glasses, I’d give Tech a 10. He’s got some fun accessories, a unique helmet and a sharp paintjob. It’s nice to finish off The Bad Batch and Tech was worth the payoff.
Where to get it? You shouldn’t have much trouble finding Tech at Target and Walmart stores. Failing those options, you can grab him from Amazon or Entertainment Earth.
