Stardock’s DesktopGPT Gets ChatGPT 4o and New Keyboard Shortcuts

Stardock just added an update to Object Desktop that lets you use ChatGPT 4o and ChatGPT 4o-Mini right from the desktop with new quick keyboard shortcuts. Other than the navigation hotkeys, the DesktopGPT app also gets some new features.

You can now launch and hide DesktopGPT with a quick hotkey. By default, it’s Ctrl+Alt+O, but you can customize it in the settings. Pressing this keystroke opens up a small input field on your desktop, along with a selector where you can pick the AI model you prefer. The same hotkey hides the input dialog now. Alt+H shows the chat history and F1 gives you the complete list of available shortcuts.

You can also press “/” to pick from the list of presets, like cover letter, proofread, summary, simplify, or explain. These templates now offer advanced Markdown support, which means you can work with rich text within DesktopGPT, just like the regular ChatGPT bot.

Previously, you could only use the older ChatGPT models, but with the new release, you can also access ChatGPT 4o and ChatGPT 4o Mini. Since some people already had OpenAI subscriptions, but no way to use those premium features in DesktopGPT, Stardock has added API key support. You just have to paste your unique OpenAI API key into the settings panel, and you’ll be able to use your premium credits with DesktopGPT. The ChatGPT 4o and 4o Mini models are available to everyone though.

Stardock bundles DesktopGPT as an applet within Object Desktop (Stardock’s full suite of apps), but not as a standalone app. It was originally designed for company use. “DesktopGPT is a tool that we started using internally, especially the templates functionality, and are now bringing it to all of our Object Desktop users,” the announcement on the Stardock blog reads. You can get these updates manually by going into the DesktopGPT settings and clicking “Check Now” in the “About” tab.
