Still No Date, But Spotify’s “Deluxe” Plan Will Be Under $20

In the never-ending battle between Spotify and Apple Music (with YouTube Music occasionally sticking its nose in), you’ll hear a lot of people quoting Spotify as being the overall superior option. I’ve never used Apple Music, but I’ll agree for the sake of the plot. However, Apple Music always gets a point back for having lossless audio.

For the longest time, we’ve heard rumors of a lossless plan coming to Spotify to give us music at the very highest quality. However, these have just remained rumors and we’ve had to make do with trickles of additional information. Well, there’s still no date, but we have a better idea of how much this “deluxe” plan might cost.

According To Spotify’s CEO, You’ll Likely Be Paying Around $18 For Its Top-End Plan

It’s quite frankly annoying how long we’ve needed to wait to actually get our hands and ears on a Spotify plan that gives us lossless audio. The rumors have been going on for years and there’s still nothing solid to show for it beyond the fact that we know that Spotify is actually working on it to some degree.

Well, if it makes you feel any better, we now have an idea of how much this plan is likely to cost, which is something. It’ll be priced around the $17 or $18 price point, which is a significant jump over the current $11.99 plan for the Premium tier. However, I hardly think that anyone who really wants that boost in their audio quality will fight against this price tag.

And while that price tag isn’t set in stone, it can hardly be considered a rumor since it is coming from Spotify’s CEO himself, Daniel Ek. He had the following to say about this plan:

It’s probably around a $17 or $18 price point, but sort of a deluxe version of Spotify that has all of the benefits that this normal Spotify version has, but a lot more control, a lot higher quality across the board.

-Daniel Ek, Spotify CEO

That confirms that this plan might allow for greater customization and will almost certainly come with higher-quality audio support as expected. However, it is clear there’s no date, and it’s even more discouraging as he states the new plan is in its “early days”. At this rate, we’ll see you in 2026.

At Least There’s Evidence That Some Work Is Going On With Spotify HiFi

At the very least, we can be thankful that we know that Spotify is actually working on its deluxe plan, which an earlier leak seemed to show would be called Spotify HiFi. We were able to see screenshots of the interface back then, which was nice.

However, the fact that there’s still no date or even a rough window provided isn’t the best news. “Early days” is also rather upsetting to hear after the rumors have been abound for as long as I can remember. If you want lossless audio that bad, and you want it quickly, you’re probably going to need to jump ship (there’s always Tidal or Apple Music). Just saying.
