Being the market leader in terms of sales and availability of its foldable Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip smartphones, Samsung isn’t about to walk away from being the king of this particular hill. As such, it’s unsurprising that a Samsung executive has confirmed that the company plans to launch more foldable smartphones in 2022.
While brands such as Vivo, OPPO, and Honor have launched their foldable smartphones in the first half of 2022, none of them are on sale in western markets. And makes buying one, despite their apparent improvements in screen quality, cameras, and processing power over the Galaxy Z Fold 3, something that is only possible by importing a unit via a third-party seller, Which is something that the vast majority of people won’t do for fear of warranty and network compatibility issues.
So that means that Samsung is and will be, for the foreseeable future at least, the most obvious provider of foldable smartphones, at least until the rumored Tensor-powered Pixel Note or OnePlus Fold is eventually released.
The Korean news outlet Yonhap News Agency reports that Samsung’s VP of mobile business, Kim Sung-koo, said the following:
“We are currently all hands on deck regarding preparing the new foldable model scheduled for launch in the second half,”
What does this mean? Well, we can expect the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 to launch sometime during the second half of 2022, likely as soon as August if Samsung’s previous Unpacked events are anything to go by.
