Surprisingly, D-Link’s AX1800 is the world’s first WiFi 6 USB 3.0 dongle

WiFi 6 has become more popular over the past year or so and is a common feature in mid-to-high spec smartphones. But when it comes to adding WiFi 6 connectivity to your trusty old laptop (without opening it up to replace the WiFi module), your options have been non-existent. Here to fill the void is D-Link with the world’s first WiFi 6 (AX) USB 3.0 dongle that simply slots into your PC or laptop’s USB port.

    Features:

    • World’s first Wi-Fi 6 (AX) USB 3.0 dongle
    • AX1800 Speeds up to 600 Mbps (2.4 GHz) / 1200 Mbps (5 GHz)
    • OFDMA and MU-MIMO technologies ensure a fast and efficient Wi-Fi connection
    • The latest WPA3™ network security
    • AX delivers superior radio access efficiency
    • Auto installation driver For Windows 7/10

D-Link says that the WiFi 6 USB 3.0 dongle will auto-install its driver on Windows 7/10 computers, and we expect that they’ll be compatible with Macs and Chromebooks too.

There’s no word on when D-Link’s AX1800 WiFi 6 USB 3.0 dongle will go on sale, but hopefully, it’s a matter of weeks rather than months. The good thing is that now that one brand has launched a USB dongle with WiFi 6 support we should see a bunch of other companies jump on the bandwagon.
