T-Mobile Now Owns Mint Mobile, Prices Won’t Change Plus Perks

T-Mobile Assures Mint Mobile Customers That Prices Are Going To Stay The Same (For Now?)

T-Mobile has officially completed acquiring Ka’ena Corporation, which is the parent company of Mint Mobile, though it also owns other wireless brands such as Ultra Mobile and Plum. This means that Mint Mobile is finally a full child of T-Mobile. This isn’t some big secret or coming out of nowhere, but it is finally done.

When a juggernaut of the wireless network game like T-Mobile comes to snatch one of the little fish, like Mint Mobile, out of the water, it is a very valid concern for existing customers if they start to wonder whether they’re suddenly going to have to start paying higher prices, instead of the low ones that attracted them in the first place. After all, price increases aren’t foreign to most digital products.

Worry not. T-Mobile has assured Mint Mobile customers that prices are not going to change. It says it will stay committed (they used a pun involving “commitmint”) to the current prices and keep the $15 per month pricing plan for new customers and old customers alike. This is good news, but I have a niggling feeling that this “commitmint” might not last for very long. Big brands always love to maximize profits, but that strategy might not work great when the consumer base for Mint is comprised of people who want affordable mobile plans.

T-Mobile Is Also Passing On Some Perks To Mint and Ultra Subscribers

If Mint Mobile users are going to hear a lot of buzz about a bigger company snapping up their mobile network carrier, they’ll want to see the benefits of such an acquisition beyond a promise to keep the same prices. Well, fortunately, T-Mobile is actually bringing some benefits to the table.

For instance, if you use Mint Mobile and have reasons to go to Canada, you’ll be glad to know that you can now get unlimited calls, unlimited texts, and 3GB of high-speed internet for free when roaming in Canada. You’re also going to get access to T-Mobile Scam Screener, which will help mark “Scam Likely” on calls that are likely coming from sketchy characters. If you happen to be on Ultra Mobile, you’ll also get the benefit of Scam Screener, as well as a better data roaming option included on most plans.

Hopefully, as time goes on, T-Mobile will continue to bring added perks to its new children. At least that way, it can eventually get to a point where most people won’t reel from a potential price increase.
