Tech Groups Seek SCOTUS Review of Social Media Moderation Laws

The US Supreme Court should step in to resolve a circuit split over state laws that would limit the ability of social media companies to police content on their platforms, tech trade groups said in a brief filed Monday.

At issue before the court is a law enacted by the Florida Legislature, S.B. 7072, enacted after Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube suspended former President Trump’s accounts.

The US Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit largely struck down that law in a May ruling, holding that efforts by the social media platforms to moderate and curate the content on their …
