Tech review: Ebo Air 2 pet camera is so much more fun than just spying on your pets

Keeping an eye on your pets has never been as much fun, or as hi-tech

Spying is not usually something to be encouraged, but when it’s your pets – it can actually be quite useful.

This new robot device from Enabot is designed to act as a security system, pet sitter, and companion.

It lets you not only keep an eye on your pets remotely, but also interact with them even when you are not in the room.

This small, quirky gizmo is loaded with options, both fun andd practical and for me it’s quickly become the item we never knew we needed.

With HD Ultra 2k wide angle camera, IR Cut night vision, speaker, and microphone, this device can help you monitor the room where your pets are, allowing you real time visuals, microphone, a laser to chase, and a series of fun sounds.

Once the initial hilarity of me and my daughter whizzing the robot around the kitchen in and out of the very confused pets, we started to see it as more than just a toy.

Being able to keep an eye on our elderly dog has actually been very useful, we now know exactly when he needs to pop out for a wee and is standing by the door.

We can tell when he is doing things he shouldn’t be and thanks to the two-way audio – we could even tell him off.

The cat was very curious, gave the robot a left paw a few times, but seemed to quite enjoy chasing the laser beam that you can choose to use.

The robot is very sturdy and balanced, despite the height and we had no issues with it falling over, or even getting stuck.

Our new little cyber pet even knows when he needs a rest and can find his own way back to his charging station when it needs a recharge.

The app synchs up really well and sends you push notifications if requested, and gives you a wealth of options from changing the facial emotions of the robot, setting patterns of movement, and of course making sure the video is picking up what you want it to.

Despite not being a toy, we have had great fun with it, and so has my granddaughter who thought it was some kind of magic being able to see the pets from another room, on my phone.

So, what else does it do? Well, it’s a clock, it detects movement, and you can record video and pictures and save them for playback.

It’s a really sophisticated bit of tech that serves a lot of purposes.

If there are any drawbacks, I’d say the voice was pretty annoying and at times despite a very good wifi connection, I found it would stutter and break up a bit.

It doesn’t do deep carpets and rugs, but then again I don’t honestly think it was ever meant to.

Enabot EBO Air 2 Pet Camera Robot is available via Amazon UK for £199.99.

What users say

Wow very impressive and image quality is amazing. Simply when out and about you can keep an eye on your home. This companion travels around the ground floor level and you can view on your mobile. Record anything going on also voice control so any pets being naughty you can talk to them. Or even security while out. Notifications with alerts.”

Video recording quality is adequate. It’s not GoPro quality or anything, and there’s no stabilisation, but it’s fine. It’s a cute machine, which emits endearing noises and speech. But it is also a rather basic thing – it’s only the camera that differentiates this from any small remote control robot. And fair dos, if you want something just to monitor the house for a day or two while you’re away, you can login on your phone, have a quick zip around the available space (it won’t go up or down stairs, obviously) and see what’s going on.”
