Tecno’s Camon 20 Premier 5G is official with a 120Hz AMOLED display and a snazzy design

It was back at MWC 2023 that we last heard from Tecno who took the opportunity to launch what is still the most affordable Galaxy Z Fold 4 competitor – the Phantom V Fold 5G. Tecno’s latest phones are aimed at the mid-range segment and offer an intriguing mix of hardware with a rather likable design. Powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 8050 SoC (a reheated Dimensity 1300), the Camon 20 Premier 5G also features a 6.67-inch 120Hz AMOLED display, 50MP main camera, and 45W fast charging. The Camon 20 series consists of further two models – the Camon 20 Pro 5G and the Camon 20 Pro, both of which share the same display but have different main cameras and charging speeds.

Besides having a 120Hz refresh rate, the 6.67-inch AMOLED display has an FHD+ resolution and also houses an in-display fingerprint sensor on all three handsets.

Both the Camon 20 Pro 5G and 20 Pro feature the same 64MP main camera and a 2MP Bokeh lens, with the 20 Pro 5G also benefiting from an additional 2MP macro camera. Both have a 32MP selfie camera.

While the Camon 20 Pro 5G is powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 8050, the regular 20 Pro makes do with a Helio G99 processor which only supports 4G networks. Both models feature 8GB of RAM and 256GB of built-in storage and have 5,000mAh batteries with 33W wired charging. NFC support is present, which means you can use mobile payments, and you’ll also find a 3.5mm audio jack.

The Camon 20 Pro and 20 Pro 5G are available in Predawn Black and Serenity Blue colorways and run Android 13 (HIOS 13) out of the box.

Camon 20 Premier 5G

The top-of-the-line Camon 20 Premier 5G shares much of the same hardware as its siblings but it does differ in a couple of respects. First, it’s sporting a lychee-effect leather-covered rear panel which takes 56 hours of diamond polishing to create before undergoing another 576 hours of crafting and processing. It’s a unique design, bringing a durable and premium feel to the phone, especially when you consider the rear camera housing which is made from nanocrystalline ceramic.

The 20 Premier 5G is upgraded to a 50MP main camera with OIS and f/1.8 aperture while there’s a 108MP ultra-wide lens which also takes care of macro photography. Bringing up the rear is one of those 2MP sensors which is supposed to aid depth of field. On the front, you’ll find the same 32MP selfie camera as seen on other models in this range.

Whilst it uses the same Dimensity 8050 chip and 8GB of RAM as the Camon 20 Pro 5G, the Premier is upgraded to 512GB of built-in storage. The 5,000mAh battery also supports 45W fast charging, up from the 33W of its siblings.

Available in Serenity Blue and Dark Welkin colorways, Tecno’s Camon 20 Premier 5G is on sale for $450. Tecno has yet to release pricing details for the Camon 20 Pro and 20 Pro 5G at this time.
