‘Tehran’ Renewed for Second Season at Apple TV+

The Israeli spy thriller is the streamer’s first non-English language show to earn a pickup.

Apple is going back into the spy game.

The tech giant has renewed the Israeli spy thriller Tehran for a second season on the TV+ platform. The show is the first non-English language series to earn a pickup from Apple.

The renewal comes about three months after the show wrapped its first season on Apple TV+. Like other streamers, Apple doesn’t provide viewing data for its shows, but Tehran earned mostly positive reviews: The Hollywood Reporter’s Inkoo Kang noted that it’s “a better tragedy than it is a thriller — and perhaps intended that way.”

Tehran stars Niv Sultan as a Mossad agent who goes on a deep undercover assignment in the Iranian capital, placing her and everyone around her in grave danger. Shaun Toub, Navid Negahban, Shervin Alenabi, Liraz Charhi and Menashe Noy also star.

Apple co-produces Tehran with Israeli network Kan 11, which will continue to air it while Apple streams the series globally.

Moshe Zonder, Dana Eden and Maor Kohn created the series. Omri Shenhar serves as writer alongside Zonder, and Daniel Syrkin directs. Syrkin and Shenhar are also co-creators. Eden and Shula Spiegel executive produce for Donna and Shula Productions along with Alon Aranya for Paper Plane Productions; Julien Leroux for Paper Entertainment; Peter Emerson for Cineflix Studios; and Zonder, Shenhar, Syrkin and Eldad Koblenz for Kan 11.

Both Zonder (Netflix’s Fauda) and Aranya (Showtime’s Your Honor) have overall deals at Apple.
