SMITHVILLE, TN – Tennessee Tech University’s Appalachian Center for Craft will once again hold summer workshops from late May to early August for beginner, intermediate and advanced students alike. Both weekend and week-long art workshops will be offered.
“This summer’s workshops will explore a range of exciting content in blacksmithing, metals, wood, glass, clay and fibers. We’re excited to offer a few new workshops this year, including soapstone relief carving and fermentation workshops,” Ashley Lusietto, ACC program manager said. “Professional artists from Tennessee and beyond will teach weekend and week-long workshops, open to folks with any skill set from novice to professional. From wood carving to cheese making, there’s a summer workshop to captivate any learner.”
These workshops will be taught by campus artists and other artists from around the country and will be taught in the campus’s various studios. Each studio is equipped with the necessary items and tools, though some courses will include an additional fee for materials.
The fibers workshops will present artists Jennifer Luna, Gabrielle McHugh, Jeanne Brady, Suzanne Connors and Rena Wood as instructors. The wood workshops will feature artist Stacy Motte, Jeff Neil and Myra Orton as instructors.
The metals workshops will feature artist Brie Flora as the instructor, while the glass workshops will present Pat Langley and Tabitha Thierjung as instructors.
Artists Sarah Davey, Susan Demay, Wansoo Kim and Ian Maybry will be the instructors for the clay workshops with the blacksmithing workshops featuring artists Jay Replogle and Kevin Dotson as the instructors.
New workshops include fermentation with Sandor Katz, cheese making with Soiree-Leone and soapstone carving with Emma Levitz.
Weekend workshops meet on Friday, Saturday and Sunday while the week-long options meet every day from Sunday to Friday.
Room and board are also offered as optional add-ons, with packages made to accompany weekend or week-long courses based on selection.
