When it comes to imagining what Tesla is building next, your guess is as good as mine. However, this week Chief Designer Franz von Holzhausen gave an interview to CNBC, and while he talked a lot about the Cybertruck, he also dropped a huge teaser about the next Tesla that he “can’t talk about.”
Tesla CEO Elon Musk always makes comments, especially in the Twittersphere, but we don’t often hear from other high-ups in the company.
In the interview, Franz von Holzhausen talks about his tenure with Tesla as a designer for over ten years, how he met Elon Musk, the wild design ideas that eventually turned into the Cybertruck, and much more. And while it’s a rather interesting 16-minute video, the comments about potentially a new model excite us.
At a little over 4 minutes into the video, the interviewer asks Franz about his favorite Tesla design or something he’s most proud of, and his response was, “the one that’s coming that I can’t talk about.” He said it with a big smile, then quickly redirected the conversation back to Cybertruck.
So, what could be coming next from Tesla? We’re not entirely sure, but we have some ideas. For one, recent reports suggest a newly redesigned and revamped Model 3 is on the way next year.
Or, he could be referring to the Tesla Robotaxi set for arrival in 2024. Previously, Elon Musk has hinted at an entirely driverless vehicle and Robotaxi that can hold more than a typical car. Think Uber, but bigger and driverless.
We’re not sure if Franz is referring to something already announced and coming soon, like the Tesla Robot, although we’ve already seen its design. Or maybe there’s an all-new Tesla product in the works with a stunning new look.
In closing, von Holzhausen talked a lot about the Cybertruck’s crazy design, the materials used, and how aerodynamic the vehicle will be. And as we already know, he mentioned the overall look remains highly similar to the prototype unveiled way back in 2019, only a hair smaller, and that production will begin in 2023.
