LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech SAAC president Taylor Limbaugh and campus relations chair Emeline Mangham represented the Red Raiders at the Big 12 Leadership Forum hosted at the Big 12 Conference Office in Irving.
The duo are members of Texas Tech’s track and field program and both hold key roles in the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Limbaugh and Mangham traveled to the Big 12 Conference Office for the three-day professional development forum.
“I am super excited to lead SAAC alongside our outstanding executive board this next year at Texas Tech,” Limbaugh said. “After discussing and planning ideas at the leadership forum, I believe our student-athletes will see SAAC in a new perspective and have excitement for being a part of our amazing group all while learning impactful lessons and building relationships across all sports. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to attend the Big 12 SAAC Leadership Forum on behalf of Texas Tech SAAC and can truly say I left a better leader, professional and person because of the experience and all that I learned.”
Thursday consisted of leadership and professional development opportunities, including headshots, resume review, LinkedIn training and mock interviews while Friday morning kicked off with a volunteer activity before the representatives began action planning.
“Each school provided an advisor to assist in these workshops, and we were able to receive one-on-one sessions with advisors to improve our skills in each area,” Mangham said. “I really enjoyed having one-on-one interactions with advisors, gaining such detail-oriented guidance was really helpful, and I enjoyed getting to know advisors from other schools in the Big 12.”
The end of the forum provided an opportunity for each school to begin planning for the upcoming athletic season before concluding the weekend with awards, photos and remarks from Commissioner Brett Yormark.
“Over the course of the forum, I learned many valuable lessons and was challenged multiple times in thought-provoking ways,” Limbaugh said. “Some of the biggest takeaways that I am excited to implement in Texas Tech SAAC this year include the value of quality over quantity, proper and effective communication and general consistency.”
