The 2023/24 UEFA Champions League is the 69th season of Europe’s premier club football tournament, of course, organised by UEFA. This summer, spectators witnessed the qualification stage which started on the 24th of July, and now it is time to watch the group stage. What has happened so far?

So far, fans have witnessed the qualifying rounds of the 2023–24 edition of the UEFA Champions League, which started on June 27th and ended on August 30th, 2023. Seventy-eight teams from 53 associations participated in the tournament, with 32 teams competing in the group stage. Interestingly, the 2023–24 edition will be the final season to be played with the current format of 32 teams all participating in the group stage. From the next edition on, a new expanded format will be implemented in the tournament.

It is well known that the final of this tournament will be played at Wembley Stadium in London and that the winners of this tournament will automatically qualify for the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League phase and earn the right to play against the winners of the UEFA Europa League in the 2024 UEFA Super Cup. Together with that, they will also enter the 32-team 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in the United States. All this to say, there are many things at stake for the future winner of this competition.

What will happen next?

The competition proper started on September 19 and will end on June 1, 2024. Now, the 32 teams that qualified for the group stage will compete in eight groups of four teams each. After that, the top two teams from each group will then advance to the knockout stage which will end with the famous Wembley Stadium competition. 

Group A includes Bayern Munich, Manchester United, Copenhagen and Galatasaray.

Group B includes Sevilla, Arsenal, PSV Eindhoven and Lens.

Group C includes Napoli, Real Madrid Braga and Union Berlin.

Group D includes Benfica, Inter Milan, Salzburg and Real Sociedad.

Group E includes Feyenoord, Atletico Madrid, Lazio and Celtic.

Group F includes Paris Saint-Germain, Borussia Dortmund, AC Milan and Newcastle United.

Group G includes Manchester City, RB Leipzig, Red Star Belgrade and BSC Young Boys. And finally,

group H includes Barcelona, Porto, Shakhtar Donetsk and Antwerp.

Betting on this competition is never easy, as all these teams are extremely powerful and strong. Therefore, it is never easy to predict who will best the others during this amazing series of competitions. At the same time, some teams have an established reputation and are often considered strong in European competitions.

These teams supposedly have more chances of progressing to the next stage and are teams such as Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus. Similarly, some smaller teams from less established footballing nations might struggle to make it, but nothing is ever set in stone and fans eagerly wait to see what will happen next.
