The Best Gifts for Infants

There’s no such thing as a wrong time to give a child a gift. Whether it’s a holiday, you’re dropping in to pay a new parent a visit, or you just want to bring some joy into a little one’s life, any time is a good time for presents.

Shopping for infants can seem difficult — particularly for people who aren’t parents themselves. I have some friends whose tots will soon be crawling and clapping. When it comes to choosing gifts for their kids, there are a few boxes to check: They should be thoughtful and aid in the baby’s development, and (for the sake of the parents) they should not be too loud. Given how quickly babies grow, an item they can enjoy for years is a plus.

I have a 1-year-old baby girl, as well as a 6-year-old and a 4-year-old. So I’m a seasoned gift-giver who loves coming home with trinkets and toys that last. I also consulted with the other moms on our baby-and-kid team; collectively, this group has over 35 years of parenting under their belt.

Together, we settled on an assortment of presents that will have a baby’s grin on full display. We also offer gift ideas for kids age 1 through teens here.
